This teacher says if you ever wonder why people are leaving the teaching profession in droves, this is one of the main reasons. She has students that she has written an incident report on every single day. She has contacted the principal and the support staff and the help that was given to her was to email the parents of the students. Basically, no help or support at all. We have many epidemics in our country but this is one of the biggest that doesn’t get enough attention. We all know our school system is a failure but even more than we know. Students these days have zero consequences. They are passed with straight F’s. They are allowed to be a continuing distraction and disruption in the classrooms and nothing is done about it. We need to start over. 💯 Why do we allow this this as a school? As a district? As a city? As a state? As a country? It didn’t use to be like this? This is why other countries surpass us in education, there is no discipline in our schools. Would you want to be a teacher in this day and age at a public school?

Yesterday’s iftar at the Oasis was a moment my heart will never forget. Surrounded by my children, my siblings, their spouses, and our beautiful little ones, the evening was filled with warmth, laughter, and gratitude. There was plenty of food for everyone, even the amazing staff who helped make the moment smooth and joyful. Watching these children grow, seeing how far they have come and how beautifully they are becoming, humbles me deeply. Moments like this remind me that true wealth is found in family, love, and shared blessings. My husband stood by me in support, and I took my time serving the children their meals. It may seem simple, but to me it is one of the most fulfilling roles in the world. This is what mothers do, and I enjoyed every second of it. My heart is full, and my gratitude to Allah is endless. After many long hours of trying to reassure my daughter, Rafif, that the medicine in her mother’s hand is there to help her recover and come back to us healthy, I’m grateful to say that she finally understood. The sweetest moment was when Rafif started kissing her mother’s hand, as if she were praying for her to get well soon. These may seem like small gestures, but for a little girl carrying so much fear and love in her heart, they mean everything. Rafif wanted to be part of this video herself. Again and again, she tried to hold the phone in her tiny hands, eager to help record this special moment. 14 year old arrested for assaulting a teacher in school catches resisting charges for swinging on the police. Anderson township Ohio sheriff were Called out to the school as a teacher reported they were assaulted by one of the female students. Deputy arrived on the scene and was shown security footage of the event and spoke with the teacher that was involved. The teacher stated that they did wish to pursue charges being filed on the 14 year old. The deputy had the staff call the student out of the classroom so they would not cause a disruption in class. Once the deputy caught up with the student she immediately began to resist to the point where she tried to swing on the deputy. With the help of the principal the deputy was able to take the student into custody with no harm to anyone. The student was charged with assault and resisting arrest. You can bet that this behavior is not something this child learned naturally. You can bet this is a direct result of the upbringing of the kid and I'm betting that when she did get home instead of this being a learning moment, she was probably giving the impression that this was not her fault. Would you want to be a teacher on your staff as a principal? I have often asked teachers, would you want to be a learner in your own classroom, but the question above for administrators could be even more critical. If we do not support those closest to students every day in an effective manner, it is much harder for things to improve in schools. If we want learning to look different in classrooms, then leadership must also evolve. This doesn’t mean that everything done in the past has been wrong. Some things that mattered 50 years ago will matter now, both in learning and leadership. But replicating everything that was done in the past, whether it was effective or not, isn’t a great strategy for moving schools forward. I was blessed to learn from some amazing principals in my career, but I also learned about things that I hated as a teacher and swore that I would do my best not to replicate those strategies. I wrote this in my upcoming book co-authored with Allyson Apsey (Allyson Apsey) titled, “What Makes a Great Principal”: “If we do things in our schools and classrooms that were done hundreds of years ago that still work today, we should continue to do them. On the other hand, if we do new stuff just because it is new, but it doesn’t work, we shouldn’t be doing it. Whatever works for our community is where our focus should be, no matter when it originated.” What worked in the past? What would you change? What would you have wanted as a teacher, and how can you make that happen? Simply replicating the strategies of the past, whether good or bad, will not necessarily lead education to a better future. Innovation is crucial to leadership as much as it is to teaching and learning.

For decades, teachers have spent their own money, and parents have been asked to pitch in, to help purchase materials for classrooms. Our government is changing that. Starting this September, every eligible elementary teacher will have direct access to $750 for classroom purchases. And that’s on top of the classroom supplies funding school boards continue to receive, about $32,000 a year for a typical 500-student elementary school. The bottom line: we’re putting more resources directly into the hands of teachers, so they have what they need to support students in the classroom.
