Residents of Tshwane, we held a successful Entrepreneurs and Farmers Market at Church Square. All the SMMEs we spoke to said the event was a success and they’ve asked that we host it again. We are grateful for the support shown to emerging entrepreneurs from different sectors. We are determined to avail City assets for the economic benefit of residents. City of Tshwane

This evening, we joined our Energy and Electricity Department for a streetlights operation in the CBD. The operation included scouting and repairs of non-operational streetlights. We will be reducing the budget allocated to security services by over R100 million. Those resources will be redirected into strengthening the Tshwane Metro Police Department and advancing active, intelligence-led security in our City. For too long, public money has been spent on fragmented guarding systems that do not prevent crime and do not deliver real protection. We are choosing a different path. We are investing in trained, accountable, professional law enforcement. Officers who can act. Officers who can respond. Officers who can protect. Every rand must serve the safety of our people. Not sustain systems that do not deliver. City of Tshwane

Residents of Tshwane, this afternoon the Tshwane Metro Police Department’s Drug Unit arrested a 22-year-old Nigerian national who was caught with drugs worth R250,000 in Olievenhoutbosch. This man is based in Johannesburg but he was arrested in Tshwane because of the work done by TMPD’s Drug Unit. In past few weeks, we’ve showcased the work performed by TMPD’s Drug Unit across the city. We are dedicated to supporting their work. Our society should take a targeted approach to protecting citizens from drug trafficking. City of Tshwane

Our first stop was the inspection of a privately owned building zoned for residential purposes. Instead we found over 10 salons operating inside the property. In addition,the building is dilapidated and isn’t fit for occupancy. We will be condemning this property. City of Tshwane

The decision to do this follows an X-Space we held with young entrepreneurs who complained about not having space to work. The number of informal settlements in the City of Tshwane have skyrocketed from 220 in 2019 to 575 as recorded this year. Tomorrow, at the City’s council meeting, we will be presenting a plan to provide dignity and a lifeline for residents who reside in informal settlements. The murders at Marry Me wouldn’t have happened had we as a government done our jobs to protect and safe guard our communities. We have outsourced the duty to protect our citizens, and that is unjustifiable. City of Tshwane

These businesses are operating illegally from property owned by the city. We acknowledge that there’s deep corruption linked to the city’s leasing process.
