I do not disagree. What I don't like are the two camps when it comes to AI. The "All AI is slop and will never be as good as hand drawn, blah, blah, blah [fill in the blank insult here]." and the "AI is better than everything camp!" AI still has issues with large groups, fight scene collision detection, and, surprisingly still, hands. But the progress made is staggering! It's only gonna get better from here!

NIGHTBORNE is the first full test AI film I have made. It was made using Seedance 2.0. I've been experimenting with AI for a couple of years, and it's now at the point where I want to tackle a full feature in this format. This is a 13-minute test start. It was made with real concept artists, and features the faces and voices of 32 real people. According to reports, it was made using Higgsfield AI in around 14 days, cost about $500,000 and roughly $400,000 of that went to compute. For context, a traditional Hollywood feature can take 1-3 years and cost tens of millions to produce. This one was created by a team of about 15 directors, cinematographers, and editors using AI tools like Higgsfield’s Soul Cinema, Seedance 2.0 and other video models. The craziest part? For just the first 25 minutes, CineD reported they generated 16,181 clips to get 253 final shots. That’s roughly 64 attempts for every shot. Some prompts were reportedly around 3,000 words each, just to get 15 seconds of usable footage. So yes, AI is getting faster. But the real takeaway is not “humans are useless now” It’s actually the opposite The people who understand storytelling, directing, editing, taste and tools are about to get insane leverage.

I took it a step further and used Moon VR Player | Your Private Cinema to watch the trailer in Apple Vision Pro on a giant screen with Quality Boost and Realtime 3D. Yea, I used AI to take an AI generated thing and make it sharper and fully 3D. I kind of hate how much I loved it. Would I watch some of my favorite movies of all time remade this way? Yes I would. Turns out AI is getting to the point where it can do a very good job of taking the spirit of a live action scene and translating it to a compelling animation (at least better than the 1978 rotoscoped version of Lord of the Rings). And it's only going to get better. I absolutely believe this kind of training should be done with consent and licensing fees. Miyazaki hates AI and Lord of the Rings, so this kind of seems like a slap in the face to him. Ugh.

There's not much difference between this and a movie from a movie studio, don't you think? But of course, this is not done at the push of a button. There is a lot of craftsmanship behind it. This isn’t “AI makes trash” anymore, this is real storytelling, and real potential. The people actually using these tools already know: AI isn’t replacing creativity, it’s leveling it up. Studios aren’t ignoring it – they’re evolving with it. Watch this and tell me AI hasn’t come a long way.

I think that after videos like this, a lot of people are going to start seeing AI in a very different way. War cinema is one of my favorite genres, and being able to recreate the Normandy landings in such a vibrant and believable way feels like a dream come true. Just imagine the budget it would take to shoot a 3-minute sequence like this. I won’t even say that Hollywood is cooked. I’ll just say that AI cinema is already a reality, with a truly brilliant future ahead. Thanks to my friends at Kling AI for letting me create real cinema 🎬
