Nah, kill the tipping culture all together. If you own a restaurant and can't afford to run it and pay your employees then you need to shut down.

Here is a solution ALL OF YALL QUIT! Stop accepting it. The company will then be forced to either closed down or pay more 🤷🏾‍♂️

The existence of a $9.21 paycheck after 70+ hours is not evidence that customers should tip more; it’s evidence that the business is relying on customers to subsidize its payroll. Under U.S. labor law, the employer is legally required to ensure that tipped workers earn at least the full minimum wage for every hour worked. Tips are allowed as a credit, not a replacement. If tips plus the tipped base wage don’t reach minimum wage, the employer must make up the difference. A paycheck that small means either (a) tips were already received and paid separately, or (b) the employer is violating wage law.

This is false. Employers have to pay minimum wage if their tips don't get to that amount. So it's false advertising they only make $2 something an hour. If they get no tips, the employer has to make up the difference. She's not showing something on this check for a reason.

I dont get it. "This is why you tip." Because I didn't pay for the service rendered? If I'm to tip, it'll be for exceptional service, not because you chose to work for an organization that doesn't see you human enough to pay you a decent wage

This should be illegal. No one should be depending on tips.

No, this is why you DEMAND a change to the way restaurants operate. In NZ we don’t tip. Instead we have employment legislation that requires all employees are paid a wage. The cost of wages is factored into the food we order. Get your arses into the 21st century!

$708 CLAIMED in cash tips (meaning she made more than that). That’s $10/hr plus the $2.13/hr. Is that a lot? No. But don’t spin it saying you got a $9 check for 70 hours of work.

Tip culture = businesses skipping payroll and letting customers play manager. That’s not generosity. That’s exploitation with a smile. I love a good system where workers rely on vibes, mood, and eye contact to pay rent. Totally normal. Definitely healthy😏

How about employers start paying their staff a decent wage?

You serve $10+ drinks and only get paid $2.13

1. Did your actual tips match what you reported you made? I’m guessing no since your check wasn’t $0.00 2. Your boss should pay you more, don’t expect the public to support you 3. Yes, I tip but this is on your boss/owner so do not get mad if someone doesn’t tip.

She’s 100% correct. The no tip cheapskate crowd must’ve never worked for tips. (Or had family members who relied in them)

Why do patrons of your restaurant have to pay your employees? I don't tip my mechanic, my grocer, my dental assistant or any service people that do work in my home! I expect the company they work for to pay them a livable wage and then I pay the company for work done.

So the employer doesn’t pay you wages but the customer has to? Make it make sense.

She is failing to mention it is because she reported tips and they took taxes out of her hourly pay to cover the taxes on her tips. When she files her taxes because of the big beautiful bill she will get her taxes back on her tips. This is just a stupid person that doesn’t understand how her own pay works and anybody raging about it is also showing there stupid.

Idgaf. I tip for service above average. Not to upgrade your shitty salary. Your salary is included in the product. If not, grow up and negotiate for a huge raise or get another job. Not my fuckin problem!

None of you get it, as a bartender the very last thing you want is some so called livable wage that a bunch of fucktards consider good money. The issue isn't tipping your bartender, it's being asked to tip at every stupid register where the staff isnt getting paid a tip wage

It is true that bartenders are disgustingly underpaid but I highly doubt that she is making just $2 an hour. As the absolute lowest they can make in the states is $7.25 an hour. With that said, I work at an airport lounge and the Bartenders are the lowest paid among the entire staff at $8 an hour. They do however go home with the most money every night due to tips. On an average night, they are pocketing at least $300 a day. So they are looking at a minimum of around $1,500 a week in straight tips. At that point, the hourly pay does not matter. They can leverage their low pay for cheaper rent which is what most do. Not disclosing what they make with tips.

I hate mfs like this. Career server turned manager here and she’s only talking about her hourly wages. Disregarding the fact all her income comes from CC and cash tips. Our hourly pay is FOR taxes.
