This bartender worked 70+ hours and got a $9.21 paycheck. ‘This is why you tip.’

The bartender has agreed to work for an employer who apparently isn't willing to pay them a living wage. This is why we shouldn't tip. We should NOT be doing business with companies that treat their employees this way. And we should NOT be enabling people who are enabling those kinds of businesses.

Companies be like.

That’s not our responsibility. The bars and restaurants have to pay their employees. We don’t pay their salaries.

Tip you for doing your job that you're being paid for? The business owners keep 100% ownership while customers help them pay the salaries. Nice matrix.

So basically they hire workers, under pay them, and the customers indirectly pay the workers? Ain't no way that's right. She either got debt or she lyin

No. This is why you don't take a job for pennies an hour.

This is why you form a union.

So why the fuck he works as a waiter?

This bartender worked 70+ hours and got a $9.21 paycheck. 1. Thats why you need to have proper labor laws. 2. The employer's fault for exploiting his staff 3. The employees fault to stay in this environment. 4. Not my problem to pay thier salaries.

Nope, this is why you unionize like we did back in the day. Know what you boss has? Knee caps. Know how to get better pay? Remove his knee caps. That's two attempts at negotiating a better pay deal. Like come on people, use your collective power already.

Legally the employer is required to cover the difference up to minimum wage if tips aren't sufficient. I'm guessing the check is so low because the bartender actually made really good tips that week and therefore the employer didn't have to add to their check to get them to minimum wage. Peak propaganda post.

I’m sorry but. Tip culture is so toxic on both ends. Just get a better fken job. Your lack of qualifications or limited scheduling is nobody’s fault. And as for the people dining there. You fken know they live on tips you could’ve eaten take out instead of sitting there. You had a choice. Knowing you had no intentions of tipping your server. Shame on you as well. Both of you are trifling though bc you both have choices.

"This is why you tip" NO. This is why companies should pay proper wages and get sued to oblivion to not to do so properly. A guest already pays for food and service, it's in the price. Never tip unless its real extrodinary work.

it is the job of the employer to pay them a good salary.. why should their salary burden be shifted on the customers? tipping is a scam invented by capitalists to increase their own margins

It's tip income withholding. She didn't make 9.21, the 2.13 per hour covered taxes. She knows this and so does everyone else. It's also widely known that servers generally do not report cash tips.

this is why we should abolish the tip system in favor of actual pay

Employer's fault, not the customer's.

So she doesn't criticize the government taking most of her income from her but she put it on people for not tipping her?

There is no justification to tip a percentage of inflated prices It's no more work to serve a steak dinner costing $100 than a steak dinner that costs $50. I refuse to participate in this insanity anymore . I don't care what a screen says. I don't care about social media posts. If you are with a friend and don't want to make a scene, just ask for separate checks when they take the order. It's literally one click on their screen to do separate checks.

This guy got scammed. His paycheque is not the customers responsibility

That bartender made more in cash in a weekend then you do in a week, and enough through debit/credit tips that his wage wasn't raised to the minimum as required by law. Don't ever feel bad for not tipping, there are enough people who still fall for it that you can be sure the person you feel bad for is actually making more than you.

70 hours of work About 30 drinks/hr 2100 drinks prepared x$12.00 average per drink 🍹income to the bar 👉🏼$25,200 And the owner cannot pay a decent wage out of that? And it is the clients fault? For crying out loud! Do the math stand up for your rights! Don’t blame the customer

If you do not get enough Cash Tips to bring you up to the federal minimum wage, your employer is legally obligated to bump you to Federal Min ($7.25 or w/e low shit it still is). EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP TIPPING OR THIS JUST GETS WORSE Notice they have zero reported Cash Tips.......

Her check would have been higher if nobody tipped her. Give her larger "paychecks" by not tipping!

His check is this low because his tips were that good.

So you make people work for free unless customers feel sorry for them and tips them? Tipping is for good service, livable wage is the employers responsibility.

Imagine writing this and getting angry at those ppl not tipping instead of those who've convinced you that you shouldn't be paid properly in the first place. What a successful con trick

708 in cash tips that were reported. So still not a lot but it explains the withholdings.

That is the reason you don't tip either pay a proper wage or we all boycott your establishment. Tips should be an added extra now a wage requirement!!

Maybe the Bar should pay the bartender a living wage.

Controversial statement: a tip should be extra on top of your wage, not your entire wage.

No. That is why businesses should pay their employees a living wage.

No, no. This is why you fight to raise the Minimum wage and get paid what its correct or go get another job. Customers are not the ones Who has to pay you. That's a USA thing and we dont need It to get a global standard. Thank you very much

Girl, no self respecting human over the age of 18 will work for 2.13$ an hour! Why the hell are you working for that salary?! Dont guilt trip others to tip when your boss doesn't even pay you MINIMUM WAGE! You're choosing to work for someone who barely pays you BY CHOICE!
