This umpire initially called the runner coming home out. The catcher drops the ball and then the umpire rules him safe because of the dropped ball. Then the catcher after a couple of seconds goes and tags the runner and the umpire calls him out. I don’t know what game the umpire is watching but it clearly isn’t this one. And I don’t know where he received his training. After the catcher dropped the ball, if he thought the runner didn’t touch home he should have made no call. But clearly he does. What do you think? Was he safe or out?

This batter swung at a pitch and missed. The runner from first was stealing and the catcher makes a throw down to second. The catcher made contact with the batter who was still in the batter’s box after swinging and missing. The umpire called batter’s interference, sent the runner back to first and called the batter out. To me, that batter has to be able to finish his swing. He never stepped outside the box. I think it is the wrong call. What do you think? Batter’s interference or not?

Defensively this is how you handle two runners on the same base to pull off a DP. Tag the trail runner 1st then tag the lead runner & retag him once he vacates the base. As a base runner, “ make the umpire chase you off the base.”

This runner at first was caught in a pick off move by the pitcher. Pitcher throws to first and the first baseman fires to second and the umpire calls him out. He looked safe on the play. However, the umpire admits he was safe but said he called him out because the other team was losing 10-0 in the first inning. He said “he was so safe but I just gave it to them.” Basically saying we gotta’ get the game moving right? Fellow umpires, some coaches and parents said they respect the call and why. But many people said you are cheating that one runner by calling him out. They said no matter the score you have to have integrity even if it is 20-0. They said this is why kids grow up disliking umpires and why parents act the way they do. Tough one- I actually understand where he is coming from but if that were your kid, would you want him called out? I say call the game the right way 100% and let it play out the way it is supposed to. How is the other team supposed to get better if you are giving them calls? Do you agree with the umpire and why he did it? Or, are you totally against that and that should never happen?

This is the reason that coaches and parents go bonkers sometimes. This play at home left people baffled. The runner is rounding third and headed for home. The throw to the catcher gets there way ahead of time of the runner. The catcher catches the ball, waits for the runner and applies the tag. Easy out right? 💯 The umpire calls obstruction on the catcher and said he was obstructing the runner from scoring. The runner is safe! 🤯 That may be one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen on any level. The ball arrived so early that the catcher could have sat on home plate and had lunch waiting for that runner. If you have the ball you can be right there waiting to tag the runner when he comes in. What do you think? Obstruction or not? Was the catcher not giving the runner a fair path to home plate or was the umpire watching a game on another planet?

Have seen questions about why this wasn't an automatic out on Curtis Mead for running out of the basepath Rule 5.09(b)(1): "A runner's base path is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely."

I’ve had a ton of questions regarding today’s first inning in Kansas City regarding the Philadelphia Phillies at Kansas City Royals, and why all six runs were earned despite an error. The error by Turner is a throwing error, and while a good throw would have ended the inning, this is NOT an assumed out error because of the out at second base (this is where you don’t assume a double play). So, even without this error, all six runs would have scored, so the six earned runs against Christopher Sánchez is correct. EDIT: adding this, but again, the error here is only for the extra base advancement, not for being safe at first, as the batter officially was safe on a fielder’s choice. The only way you could have an error on this is if the throw was a good one and on target, and the first baseman missed or dropped it. Outside of that, the error is just for the extra bases, not for how the batter reached. He reached on a fielder’s choice. #RingTheBell #FountainsUp

This batter hits a ground ball to third base. First base girl is covering for the throw. The batter goes out of her way to run into the first base girl. That should be an automatic ejection and…..I would say a suspension. That is no way to play the game. What are we teaching our kids? If you were her own coach, what would you do and say to her? Her parent? The league?

No we didn’t lose the game off this But can we talk about how bad this call was? Batters foot is a GOOD ways out of the box and it hits him, but he gets the free base. This 100% should’ve been ruled as the batter being out. You cannot step out of the box.

🚨WEIRD PAY ALERT🚨 We have ABANDONMENT!!! Also, there is an irony this happened in Philadelphia and it was a Cincinnati Reds prospect that did it! This is from the 4th inning of today's Future's Game. Alfredo Duno of the Chattanooga Lookouts grounds a ball to third, and the throw from Caleb Bonemer up the line, and caught by first baseman Ralphy Velazquez. Velazquez has the ball and is straddling the baseline, so there is no where for Duno to go, so he basically says "screw it" and leaves the basepath and heads to the dugout. You can't see it here, but the first base umpire made the two-handed sweeping gesture for out of the baseline, but since the player isn't so much avoiding the tag as he is just heading to the dugout without completing the play, this is abandonment. You score it just the same as if the out was completed in regular fashion, so this is a 5-3 groundout. #MLBFuturesGame #RingTheBell #ATOBTTR

Here, with Workman on second, Zach McKinstry hits a fly to left that lands, and Workman is thrown out 7-5 at third base. This was ruled a single, and the question has been asked as to why. First, this is the correct scoring, as this is a single. If this were a ground ball to short, and the runner is out 6-5 at third on a ball that would have otherwise been a hit, this would have been a fielder's choice, and the difference is in the wording on rule 9.05(b)(3), which says that you do not score a hit when a: (3) pitcher, the catcher or any infielder handles a batted ball and puts out a preceding runner who is attempting to advance one base or to return to his original base, or would have put out such runner with ordinary effort except for a fielding error. The Official Scorer shall charge the batter with a time at bat but no hit; The key is in the McKinstry play, the ball is handled by an outfielder, and not the pitcher, catcher, or any infielder. Here is the play folks are asking about, and I don't see an error here. Triolo doesn't make an attempt at the runner going to second, so it cannot be a fielder's choice, and the struggle to get the ball out of his glove isn't an error unless there is a complete loss of contact/bobble with air, and I don't see that either, and Happ then beat out the play at first. I don't see where the error is because Happ is on the base before the ball gets to first. There is an error for the advancements after the bad throw, but I have a single and not an assumed out here.

I don’t know what it is with Carlos quotes and people not putting everything he said complete but this is what he said, also mind you this is what got Kimi angry, but Carlos DID moved out of the way “I think he felt I blocked him, but I don't think I did. I guess these days, in straight-line mode, if you don't move out of the way exactly as the other driver wants, you can't turn because you don't have downforce with the wings open, and maybe he thought I could have moved out of the way better.” “But I also don’t think he should call me an idiot over the radio; I think it’s against the rules to swear or insult another driver, so I think he should calm down a bit.”

#Pirates Enmanuel Valdez injured his shoulder sliding into third base on this triple He’s safe. He then is clearly calling for time (while in obvious pain) and gets called out in the process?! I don’t think he could use the other arm to call time. That was the shoulder that was injured. Reviewed and upheld.
