NEW: A driver running a red signal appeared to have caused a crash yesterday at the newly revamped intersection of Army Navy Drive & S. Hayes Street in Pentagon City. And they did it right in front of an Arlington County police officer. While I’m not making an excuse for the driver of the white car in Video 1 for not obeying a traffic signal, there’s an intersection design that may cause confusion for drivers not paying close attention (of course, that's so many drivers). The driver who ran the light really didn’t have a red signal over their lane. The signal over their lane was green. It’s a green arrow meant for the far-right lane, yet hangs mostly over the right thru lane. In Video 2, I visited the intersection last night to see the changes up close. In the view from my driver’s seat, you can see how that right turn signal lines up with my car. I was in the same lane as the driver in the video. The right turn lane is to my right. Also, the signal is immediately to the right of the dotted line that guides drivers through the intersection. It would be a good idea to shift that signal further to the right and also move the signal meant for that lane to the right. As for the right turn lane, it’s now right turn only on a green arrow. It’s set this way to protect the not-yet-opened new bike lane on Army Navy from Joyce to 12th. The bike lane has its own special little traffic signals. Another key change, which will likely help prevent the kind of crash we’ve seen most often at this intersection, is on the exit ramp from I-395N. The left turn from that ramp is now only legal with the green arrow. This should prevent many of the conflicts with drivers on northbound Hayes. It also legitimizes what drivers were already doing, creating two left-turn lanes. If they fix the traffic signal alignment, there’s a good chance this will finally be a much safer intersection. Now, they need to straighten out Washington Boulevard and S. Walter Reed Drive, Arlington County’s most dangerous merge. Listen, green juicing - should you do it, or leave it? Never mind the video attached, its just for entertainment purposes. The video shows a woman who goes to an [organic] farm and plucks fresh green leafy veggies, adds turmeric, lemon and ginger and makes a "green juice" which is claimed to be tasty and healthy. But what I would really want to discuss today, is if you really need to "green juiced detox" for wellness. No opinions here, no hearsay, just pure science of it. Green juicing is a detox practice. But none actually knows what is getting detoxed. An organ? An organ system? The body? No idea. The whole body is already getting detoxed by liver and kidneys and they do a wonderful job of it. Similar to "who watches the watchmen," line, should you "detox the detoxers?" For that, one must realize that detox is not a legit medical science word or practice. Detox is a wellness quackery term created to expand business oppurtunities. You have detox powders, detox tablets, detox capsules, detox practices (such as massages, oil pulling through nose, enemas, exposing anus to the Sun called 'sunning,' and so much more) and yes, detox juices. Detox is there is grab your hard earned money. A green juice or any type of detox for that matter does not help you prevent or treat any disease known to humans. The only thing getting detoxed with a detox is your bank account. The dubious practice of detox. Products that promise “detox” are a sham. Yes, all of them. Now the green juice thing. Be careful of what you put in there to blend, because your real detoxers - the liver and kidneys have to work extra to relieve you from the stress of it all. Green leafy veggies blended together is a dangerous thing. Many green veggies are rich in oxalates - like spinach, lettuce, celery and beetroot. Excess of oxalates can harm your kidneys if they get overwhelmed with the work-overload - like in this case where a woman developed kidney failure after green juice cleanse. "Green Smoothie Cleanse" Causing Acute Oxalate Nephropathy This is not an isolated incident. There are many reports in published medical literature that has reported kidney injury and kidney failure due to green juicing. Listen, green juicing - should you do it, or leave it? Never mind the video attached, its just for entertainment purposes. The video shows a woman who goes to an [organic] farm and plucks fresh green leafy veggies, adds turmeric, lemon and ginger and makes a "green juice" which is claimed to be tasty and healthy. But what I would really want to discuss today, is if you really need to "green juiced detox" for wellness. No opinions here, no hearsay, just pure science of it. Green juicing is a detox practice. But none actually knows what is getting detoxed. An organ? An organ system? The body? No idea. The whole body is already getting detoxed by liver and kidneys and they do a wonderful job of it. Similar to "who watches the watchmen," line, should you "detox the detoxers?" For that, one must realize that detox is not a legit medical science word or practice. Detox is a wellness quackery term created to expand business oppurtunities. You have detox powders, detox tablets, detox capsules, detox practices (such as massages, oil pulling through nose, enemas, exposing anus to the Sun called 'sunning,' and so much more) and yes, detox juices. Detox is there is grab your hard earned money. A green juice or any type of detox for that matter does not help you prevent or treat any disease known to humans. The only thing getting detoxed with a detox is your bank account. The dubious practice of detox. Products that promise “detox” are a sham. Yes, all of them. Now the green juice thing. Looks awesome doesn’t it? Stamped and painted concrete, lights that change colors, the whole nine yards. But if you look closer, you start to see the issues. Cracks in the concrete, tiles uneven, a patio that pools up water, an unfinished planter, etc. the list goes on and on. When she pointed out these defects to the construction company, they walked off the job failing to complete the work. So what does someone do? In North Texas there seems to be a whole lot of protection for the contractor but very little for the consumer. In this type of situation they were paying on a schedule-- 25% for this, 25% for the next phase and so on. She is not going to name the company just yet as legalities enter the picture. There are dates in play and August 11th is a date circled on the calendar. In Texas you have something like 30 days to notify the contractor of issues and then they have something like 30-60 days to respond whether they are going to fix the issues, offer money, etc. They started in December and it is now July. 🤯 Before you say that’s way too much, this pool and backyard has all the upgrades. The planter was to have two fire bowls on each end, waterfalls and then plants and flowers overlooking the pool. A diving board, a lounge pool, a spa that seats 8-10 people, custom tile and decorative trim, lit stairs. They went all out. But now she is stuck with all the issues and flaws and cannot get anyone else willing to finish the work. Yep, first world problems but you would definitely want everything perfect for that amount of money. 100% perfect. 💯 This is exactly why I’m hesitant to have an underground pool installed with a patio and all. Too many worries about upkeep and the job being done right. Issues like this seem to rampant. Some people seems to have some good luck and others seem to have nothing but nightmares. You are the homeowner- list the steps you would take in this situation.
