This call is the exact reason why ABS was needed

Anyone who thinks this is somehow bad for the sport can kick rocks

Lol bro really thinks he struck out Roman Anthony looking?? No fcking way.

Less than an inch. Ump should be immediately fired on the spot. Give the gear to the closest guy in the front row that thinks he can do better.

Needs to be a quicker and more seemless process though

There's a good chance that pitch was a strike at the front of the plate and is exactly why 2d ABS sucks.

I appreciate it for the 6 inch misses, not the .9 inch misses.

Human error is part of baseball. If an ump is going to call one part of the zone a little wide you adjust. The imperfection is what makes it perfect.

It’s a new world, the days of the Greg Maddux strike zone are over!

The habit catchers have nowadays of catching the ball in one spot and then instantly shifting the glove toward the middle to make it look like a strike may stick around, but now it will be even more obvious that they are trying to fool the ump. You could just tell it was not a strike.

This allowed for the Red Sox to get 2 more runs afterwards. I love ABS so much, dude

Just go fully automated balls and strike now. Make it smoother.

Maybe we'll be done with this stupid framing by catchers finally

This is the exact reason ABS should just be making all of the calls and umpires should go the way of the milkman

The fact it’s a 2D plane only at the middle of the plate really invalidates this. It’s possible this pitch was high enough to knick the front of the zone. Why ABS is being instituted in such an incomplete way is weird

This is a strike. This hits the bottom of the zone at the front of the plate. That is a strike at the front of the plate. ABS is wrong.

Outlaw framing while they are at it... lol. Im old enough to remember when umps didnt care if framed or not

obviously a ball. far too many players (not just pitchers) have been bailed out by lazy umps. no more ball & strike calls by umps at all. another plus: it will get rid of the plague which is framing.

Keep fucking destroying baseball @MLB

I wonder if the umpire admits he f'd up after the game. Or says,"oh well, l'll still call it a strike again tomorrow"

I have always felt that the fact umpires do a big exciting motion for a strike three but do nothing for a ball for makes them more likely subconsciously to want to call that strike three. I don’t know on a 50-50 call why we allow one to be demonstratable and interesting

Use it on every pitch or don't use it at all. The current setup is annoying and ruins the flow of the game.

Should be strike 3

When the fix the depth of the supposed strike zone..and when did the strike zone change? belt down?

as an umpire you also have an intuitive sense of the strike zone, it's not just knowledge and experience, but god damn is it still so hard to do

And they go on to score 2 more runs.
He did not hesitate in challenging the call. Knew it right away

lol I love how the pitcher was storming off the mound he knew good and well that was ball lol

Batters are going to stop getting screwed by the ump ??? And the fake walk off by the pitchers... OMG

So why isn’t this just automatic? No point in the delays every 5-10 pitches. If it’s wrong the umo should be alerted and the call changed.
T-Mobile sponsorship is genius

Belt down….

No brainer challenge situation

Only use it in big moments, or late in games. Better not see it used in a 1-0 count with 2 outs by the 7 hitter in the 4th

Thank Vegas*
