Hypocrisy on Display: Anti-Trump Protesters at Lincoln Memorial Demand Congress Block Certification In a move that screams hypocrisy, anti-Trump protesters have gathered at the Lincoln Memorial, urging Congress to block the certification of Donald Trump's win in the 2024 election scheduled for January 6, 2025. This action comes with claims that Trump should be barred as an "insurrectionist" for his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol events. Let's dissect this: The January 6, 2021, Events vs. January 6, 2025, Protests January 6, 2021: Trump supporters, rallying against what we believed was a fraudulent election and calling on Congress NOT to certify it, were exercising their First Amendment rights to petition the government for a redress of grievances. A few bad actors entered the Capitol through force, while others were merely spectators let in by Capitol Police, leading to chaos, violence, and the tragic loss of Ashli Babbitt. This was broadly labeled as an "insurrection" or "attempted coup" by political leaders, the media, and many legal experts. The event resulted in numerous criminal charges, including seditious conspiracy, highlighting the severity with which these actions were viewed by the legal system. January 6, 2025: Here, we see anti-Trump protesters doing the same, calling for Congress NOT to certify the election. The intent to influence or halt the certification process is strikingly similar, albeit through peaceful protest. The irony here is palpable. Democrats and many in the media have condemned the January 6, 2021, events as an attack on democracy, yet here they are, or at least their supporters, engaging in what could be seen as an attempt to undermine the democratic process through legal and protest means. This raises significant questions about the consistency of their stance on democracy: Lawfare: The use of lawfare against Trump, especially concerning the events of January 6, 2021, has been politically motivated. The push to block his certification now seems like another chapter in this narrative, showing that political is their real motive rather than a concern for democratic integrity. Selective Outrage: The fervor around January 6, 2021, was largely about the physical breach of the Capitol and the disruption of proceedings. (Although we now have proof that the FBI are the ones who instigated the violence at the Capitol in the first place not Trump supporters). But if the aim is to prevent the certification of a president-elect, how is this attempt any less of an affront to democracy?
