The government has published guidance for schools on keeping “gender questioning” children safe in education. It is now part of the statutory safeguarding framework. Schools must record each child’s sex and must not allow pupils to use opposite-sex facilities. It says schools could adopt a policy on “social transition”, but it doesn’t say what social transition in school could mean. Read our full analysis:

It is fantastic news that the Government has finally woken up to the dangers of social media for young people. This is an important step in helping parents protect childhood for children. Huge credit goes to Laura Trott MP and my Shadow Cabinet for relentlessly fighting for this. Conservatives welcome this latest Labour U-turn, and will continue to work for the best implementation of the policy.

I'm not buying that the primary goal of Anthony Albanese social media ban is to protect children. He failed to introduce social media censorship laws last year via the Misinfo bill and so this is now another attempt to limit the power of the people to reach others online with the truth.
