Billy Strange and I started a publishing company in the late ‘60s called B-n-B Music, which stood for Boots and Billy Music. Billy introduced me to a songwriter whom he had been collaborating with named Mac Davis. Billy thought he was exceptionally talented and that we should sign him. While Mac was with us at B-n-B, I did everything I could to support him, including—recording his material, putting him in my stage show, and placing some of his songs with artists like Elvis and Kenny Rogers. When his singing career took off and he signed with Columbia Records, the label wanted the publishing rights to the songs we had published. Mac asked to be released from his contract, and we agreed, because refusing would have hurt his career. Letting him go was the right thing to do for him, but B-n-B never really recovered. I’ve said it before to In The (D3FB) Huddle, and I’ll say it again to everyone - Jerheme Urban is one of the top coaches in the country at ANY level. Trinity University Football shouldn’t have even been a visit for me in the #d3fb Playoffs because they by all rights shouldn’t have been here in the first place. After the loss to Centre, they were done this season, except Coach Urban and his staff and team leaders decided to make sure the youth would get maturity this year despite the bad start. And somehow, he coached this group to another playoff berth. If you can’t appreciate how amazing this run was for Trinity, you don’t understand football — period. In this video, Coach Urban goes out of his way to thank us for the coverage of a tremendous game, and I share my thoughts on the 2024 Tigers’ run. Once again, I wasn’t let down by my visit to San Antonio — thanks to EVERYONE that made it special once again.

FT #Hoffenheim 2 -3 #Spurs Anyone thinking Ange has sorted this #Spurs team out is living in cloud Cuckoo land. 1st 35 mins of the 1st half was good then we lost control. This is a German team that couldn’t buy a victory yet still had 23 shots on goal 🤦🏻‍♂️luckily their finishing was as bad as their defending. The 2nd half performance was absolutely abysmal we were playing so deep and couldn’t get out our half. Luckily they gifted us the chance for Son to bury one. His two goals and Maddison play were a positive but let’s be serious Nothings changed despite this victory. #COYS 💙🤍

8th Anniversary for 2nd and 26 Eight years ago today, on January 8, 2018, Tua Tagovailoa connected with DeVonta Smith for a stunning 41-yard touchdown pass in overtime, securing a victory against the Georgia Bulldogs. This dramatic play clinched a walk-off championship for the Crimson Tide, marking Nick Saban's 5th national title in Tuscaloosa and the 17th national title in school history. Alabama beat UGA 26-23 in OT Do you believe that the 2nd and 26 play is the greatest play in Alabama history? Saban made a bold decision at halftime by benching Jalen Hurts after a challenging first half. Tua Tagovailoa proved to be the spark the Crimson Tide needed, catching Georgia off guard with his unique style of play. When I reflect on this game, I think about two players, Christian Miller and Terrell Lewis, who suffered injuries in the first game of the season against Florida State. These injuries were initially considered season-ending, but thanks to their hard work and dedication to extra rehab, both players managed to return in time for the National Championship. They played vital roles for the Crimson Tide during the Championship game, with Lewis making a crucial play in overtime that forced Georgia to kick a field goal. This gave Alabama the opportunity to score a touchdown and win the game. In the second half, Tua Tagovailoa had 14 completions on 24 attempts for 165 yards, with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. In the first half, Jalen Hurts was 3 for 8 with 21 yards, 0 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and had 47 yards rushing. The best stories in sports are the long shots; the people nobody expected or overlooked who then rise to prominence. Demetre Roberts of Mount Vernon is one of those athletes. Totally passed over by D1 out of high school and then a star at St Thomas Aquinas for a D2 national power. That would have been wonderful story in itself. But what Roberts, along with coach Tobin Anderson, has done this season at Fairleigh Dickinson University — a team-best 16.7 ppg, 4.3 apg and a NCAA Tournament berth — is not just remarkable. It should inspire. As FDU prepares for tonight's Play-In Game in Dayton, take 2 minutes to appreciate why I've felt very proud to follow Demetre Roberts on this journey:

Few gave Philly a chance, but the Eagles controlled much of the game and even led at halftime after a last minute McNabb to Pinkston TD. Then Marshall Faulk took over. Two 1 yard 2nd half TDs swung the game and put the Rams up 12. Down but not out, McNabb answered with a TD drive to cut it to 5, and the defense forced a quick 3 and out to give the Eagles one last shot. That’s where it ended. The offense stalled, and McNabb’s 4th down INT to Aeneas Williams sealed it, 29-24. A turning point for the NFC: the Rams never reached another title game with that core, while the Eagles went on to make the next three, taking over the conference and people understand this game was their arrival moment.

A 9–7 Cardinals team the Eagles had blown out by 28 just weeks earlier. But this wasn’t the same game. Larry Fitzgerald was in the middle of a playoff run for the ages, torching the Eagles for 3 TDs as Arizona stormed to a 24–6 halftime lead. Still, these Eagles refused to fold. McNabb threw 3 second half TDs, giving Philly the lead in the 4th quarter, but the defense couldn’t get a stop with the game on the line. Down late, the Eagles had one final chance. A 4th down throw to Kevin Curtis could have extended the comeback but there was no flag on a 50/50 PI and the game was over, Cardinals win 32–25. Adding to the weight of it all: longtime DC Jim Johnson would sadly pass away that offseason, and Brian Dawkins would leave in free agency. The final game for two Eagles icons, and the closing chapter of a great era in Eagles history.

An hour and a half in my wife says “I just want to hear him speak.” He then did say something like “how ya doing Kentucky?” Or something like that. Then ripped for another hour. I’ll share more later but I gotta get some sleep for day 4.

Texas A&M HC Mike Elko - Building Defensive IQ for Winning Situational Football "It starts to me with you have to develop football 101 in your defense. You've got to take a step back & you've got to build some level of general football knowledge in your defensive unit. It's sometimes the things that can save you when you don't call the perfect defense/scheme. Down & Distance Understanding... 2nd & 7+ - We have won 1st down... The offense is now trying to get themselves back in favorable positions for 3rd down. Here the battle is for half the yardage. - Offensively you will see a lot of RPOs, Quick Game, Screen & Draw. This is not a down where you will see a lot of high risk types of offensive plays. - Defensively we play this down & distance like a 3rd down off 1/2 the yardage... (2nd & 8 is like 3rd & 4, 2nd & 14 is like 3rd & 7) 2nd & 4-6 - We have lost 1st down. Now we must make a play on 2nd down to try to re-create an advantage for 3rd down. Success on this down is similar to 1st & 10. We are looking to hold them to 3 or less. - This is a down where the offense usually sticks to their strengths. Again, they are looking for a low risk play that will keep the chains moving forward. - For us we call this D&D no different than 1st down. 2nd & 1-3 (Waste) - Thus for the offense is known as a waste down. This is a D&D where the offense is likely to take a deep shot because they are in a favorable position for 3rd down. - Offenses will try double moves & max protection shot plays a lot on this D&D - For us on defense, this is a big zone pressure down. Gives us a chance to create a negative play and regain the advantage on the sticks. Also closes the middle of the field to protect us on the shot plays.

Evan Tengesdahl told us this afternoon there was no discussion of Offensive lineman opting out of the Liberty Bowl. Stated the whole offensive line group wanted to play with hopes of sending Gavin Gerhardt out with one final victory. Gerhardt, a sixth year offensive lineman and three-time team caption is currently tied for the most starts at center in program history. Come January 2nd, he will watch his name into the record books. Really cool moment and story to hear the offensive lineman come together for one final time with hopes of sending Gerhardt off on top.

James Harden with a long answer on how this Clippers team has impacted him: “Man it’s special. Really just giving yourself up for something bigger. Coming into this season, it was no expectations for this team for real. You look at the standings, they predicted us to be 13th seed or 12th seed in the West. Being around these guys from day one, it started in Arizona when I put the minicamp together. And then going into training camp and seeing we got something special. We got some dogs in this locker room… Here we are with an opportunity to be top 4-5 seed in the West and have a pretty good run in this postseason. They’ve impacted me in a positive way. They’ve made me lock in on both ends of the ball. And really just have that competitive mindset to want to go out and do whatever it takes to win. And that’s the beauty of a team.”
