🚀 I'm launching r3f-webgpu-perf today! "npm i r3f-webgpu-perf" One thing I missed while working with WebGPU in React Three Fiber was a performance monitor similar to r3f-perf. The existing tool is fantastic, but it doesn’t support the WebGPU renderer yet. made this in blender and react. still surprising how powerful a tool functional composition is. the ticker is solved with minimal effort, same semantics devs would use on the web. this is a side that is generally ignored in webgl/threejs. canvas3d is thought of in terms of scene primitives, math and shaders. these are all good to know. but i see people all the time trying to use these for solving problems that are inherently of a compositional nature, and fail. imperative javascript and oop lack composition. this is the only thing react adds to threejs (and any other platform it renders to), it allows it to compose.

What a fabulous evening it was, as I had the pleasure of attending my dear brother @chudeity’s book launch, “How Depression Saved My Life.” It’s a powerful and inspiring read that I highly recommend. Congratulations once again, this is a remarkable achievement. Chude poured his heart into the book, and it truly shows. As a creative, I’m learning so much from it and I’ll be sharing a review soon.

Following ☄︎ work, I'm experimenting with some react three fiber with #threejs webGPU. We no longer need an EffectComposer to use post-processing effects in #r3f. Now, everything is done by composing TSL nodes. I created a small component that helps in rendering post-processing effects. All you need to do is import the effects you want and add them to the final composition. I will share the link to the demo and source code on Monday 😍. Another thing I want to highlight is how amazing the Screen Space Reflection effect is. It generates reflections not only on the ground, as we had before in r3f in webgl. It is able to calculate the reflections between the meshes. Look how beautiful the reflection of the lightsaber on Darth Vader's mask is. This is not something that is easy to calculate and this is exactly where WebGPU in threejs shines! Congratulations to everyone on the threejs team. I am increasingly impressed with WebGPU and TSL.

Claude and I got a live sodium atom simulation! lightcell energy 🔆 I've long wanted to be able to visualize what is really happening when a neutral sodium atom is excited in a flame or a bulb. Classical theory teaches that the single outer electron orbits the nucleus and full shells, and forms a dipole when this gets "wanged" but, physicists have long wondered, what does it look like when the electron gets wanged? is it like ringing a bell? i thought that this was the perfect time to really push what is capable of, in terms of building artifacts. grabbed zig to compile wasm and webgpu to make it super performant, and work with it for a bit and ran the REAL TIME-DEPENDENT Schrödinger equation on a 3D grid in a potential in the browser. and you can kick it! what!! it's soo beautiful... this is going on the website overhaul for sure here is the artifact. i don't endorse that it's exactly right, but i feel it is probably spiritually a good sodium simulation. it certainly rings my dipole!

I open-sourced my 3d towers building site and the skills I used to create well-textured three.js models. The entire site is 1.38mb gzipped, including all models, sounds and textures. Site: Github repo: Skills: - threejs-towers - threejs-weather - threejs-landscape With an open-source project you get a way better starting point. All you need is to ask what to change, how to improve it, and rebuild it for a different theme. I added Cambodia, Vietnam and Turkey, plus storms and blizzards, and those came out perfectly with one prompt. The foundation is done, so adapting it and pairing it with your taste is what takes it further. Try modern towers, different backgrounds, weather and styles. SimCity, Civilization, Warcraft, C&C, etc. It's really fun.
