She needed to die to show the consequences of Dexter's life. That being said I was hoping Dex to go nuts after her dead, kinda like what happened to him after killing Bryan

Agree 100%. Her death was the maddest I've ever been at writers. I was so pissed I nearly quit the series. Not bcuz I liked Rita all that much but bcuz Dexter would've planned for that possibility. He would've stopped it But S5 was amazing & it wouldn't happen if he was married.
