This documentary talks about female infanticide - how women were driven to kill their own baby girls because of the crushing burden of future dowry. A while ago, I posted about games that looked great but had terrible gameplay/controls. The one that stuck with me was Dragon's Lair, but there were so many more mentioned in the comments that I had totally forgotten about. Today, I want to turn the question around - games that looked rather basic (or even poor) but had incredible gameplay. So, basically the polar opposite of Dragon's Lair. The choice for me was rather easy: M.U.L.E. (Ozark Softscape, 1983). Back then the graphics were ok but nothing to write home about. However, the reason why this game still has such a cult following and so many fans today - over 40 years later - is its gameplay. I never had more fun in a multi-player game. The land grabing, the auction system, supply and demand principles, and the many last second buy/sell antics have lost none of their charm. It's a game that aged beautifully because the concept and gameplay are as good today as they were back then. If you had to pick a game that ranks rather low in terms of presentation but fascinated you for its gameplay, which one would that be?

$We will never know the depth of what the Japa phenomenon has done to many families and communities. A family of 4kids, One in usa, One in Australia, One in UK and the last one in Abuja. Mother is dead, father is old and lives in the village. This is not an isolated case. This is the story of thousands of families. Friends split. Communities fractured. Families torn apart. Because the country has become such a hard place that so many have to travel far and wide to make something meaningful out of life. Eventually for the money we chase and the survival we seek, by going far far away from home due to no fault of our own, we all eventually pay back in a price far higher than money can give. To you who has missed the birth of your child, the burial of a loved one, the graduation of a sibling, the hugs of your family, because you were far away… To everyone who has had to go far away from home, or who has had loved ones who have had to go far away from home, this one is for you…$

🔸One of the things that pains me most about the Kariba Ferry disaster is that most of the people on the boat were travelling to rural Kariba, carrying goods for resale in their small businesses. A great number of them were women. Who doesn’t know that all too familiar story of a mother carrying a baby on her back with another in hand going off to buy and sell goods to feed her family? It’s unsurprising that it’s reported that one of the victims of the tragedy was recovered with a baby on her back. This is a community that never asked for handouts or government grants. All they needed was a functional public transport system so that they could work and feed their families yet the Govt failed them. They hate poor people. We need new leaders.🇿🇼

Rich kids and poor kids now grow up in separate Americas. If you go back to 1960, 95% of children in the U.S. were raised by two married parents, regardless of social class—rich kids and poor kids alike. Fast forward to 2005, and for upper and upper-middle-class families, that number dropped only slightly, from 95% to about 85%. So in those households, the vast majority of kids were still raised by two married parents. For working-class and poor families, it was a different story. In 1960, 95% of kids had two married parents. By 2005, that had plummeted to around 30%. And that’s exactly what I saw growing up. I was a kid in 2005, and in the neighborhoods around me, intact families were rare. I had five close friends. None of us were raised by two married parents. I was in foster homes. Two friends were raised by single moms. Another by a single dad. Another by his grandmother because his mom was on drugs and his dad was in prison. That’s a pretty common picture of working-class families in America now—a lot of family breakdown.

JUST IN: Police have released a statement about the viral footage of people being found in the back of a moving truck, say they were two families moving from Alabama to Maryland. “The Gwinnett Police Department has received several inquiries from the media about a social media video that shows people riding in the back of a moving truck.” “The back of the van had two families (eight people total including two juveniles). They were not tied up or in distress. They appeared healthy and agreed to speak with the officers.” “The occupants all told officers that they were traveling from Alabama to Maryland for a new job opportunity. The truck also included their personal belongings.” “The driver of the truck was cited for allowing the occupants to ride in the back of the truck without a seatbelt. After implying that Israelis eat human flesh, UN rapporteur Francesca Albanese is back at her favorite pastime: dehumanizing Israelis, now using soldiers’ suicides to push her own agenda. Francesca didn’t give the names of the young men who took their lives. She didn’t tell their stories. She didn’t commemorate them or speak of their bravery. She only saw numbers she could exploit for her own gain. Most of these soldiers took their lives because they lost too many friends, because Hamas destroyed their lives. Francesca is right that they were traumatized — but not by themselves, by Hamas. These were 18-year-old young men who, instead of going to college like normal young adults, were forced to see hundreds of corpses on October 7. Young men whose orders were to clear out Nova, where dozens of young women lay on the ground, their clothes torn, underwear bloodied. They saw the unimaginable. Entire houses burned with families and children still inside, like the Siman Tov. They took their lives because they were haunted by Hamas’ horrors. If anyone has no humanity in this world, it’s Hamas — the ones calling their parents ecstatic to brag about killing 10 Jews, or the ones who kidnapped a 9-month-old baby and his young brother before killing them with their bare hands.
