@MKBHD Google didn't "find a way". The EU mandated Apple to allow this. Would be cool if you mentioned that more clearly.

Place your bets: Over or under 10 days until Apple blocks this?

Apple will find a way to lower the quality of anything dropped by an android. Kind of like they do with iMessage videos. 😆

I sincerely hope Apple won't ruin this feature; it's a basic requirement in 2025 that every device should support file sharing between them.

This should have been the norm long ago. All phones must be able to communicate with each other through a secure protocol, regardless of design principles or architecture. We can't have separate ecosystems that hold users hostage to tech bureaucracy and privilege.

@SheriefFYI , @Voidnullz will you two thank the EU now? Or will the agenda continue?

Let me translate - ALL android phones could share files easily and only apple was trying to wall in it's customers. And now they can join the rest of civilized world.

EU regulation forced Apple to open the feature up.

Always when there is bad regulation „eu is stupid and dead” and when there is a very good regulation „Google found a way”

Unless Apple decides to block Quick Share from working with AirDrop. Hopefully they won’t.

Until Apple blocks it, they can't allow Google to break into their walled garden. That would ruin their whole strategy of money first, customer last.

It was due to a new EU regulation that forced Apple to open the protocols underlying AirDrop

InkFortruth's profile picture

Apple won't call it a block; they will label it a security patch. Friction is not an accident in their ecosystem; it's the business model. Breaking the wall invites users to leave the garden.
