Man that’s hard to watch.

The glider nosedived into the ground in Poland, near Żernica, after the pilot accidentally clipped a tree. Both the pilot and the passenger received non-life-threatening injuries. The glider was a PZL-Bielsko. The accident occurred on April 30th 2018. The pilot was performing acrobatics on a glider not admitted to aerobatics due to the year of production of the glider (over 25 years). Also, the pilot performed acrobatics at a very low height (below the height of 1000 ft (300 m)). He tried to make a 180° turn to the landing pad at a too low altitude and speed when the wing clipped a tree.

FYI: For a two-seat glider like this, the pilot sits in the back, so the one recording was a passenger (not flying).

I remember somthing an instructor told me a long time ago “ There’s no such thing is a good pilot, or a bad pilot. There are only good pilots, and dead pilots.” Still echos through my head when I see shit like this.

The pilot is in the backseat in this video. The glider is a SZD-9bis Bocian 1E. Accident report is online from this 2019 crash in Poland, both survived. The actual most dangerous part, is the glider was not certified for aerobatics, too old.

The pilot was flying from the rear seat, standard practice - probably an experience flight. Although the low turn , much too low for that angle of bank, got them both an experience neither wanted.

The pilot is in the back, the poor sod in the front just wanted an experience.

The pilot looked alright. The crumple zone at the front of the plane probably saved him. The other one looks like he got crumpled.

If I fall off my 2 step ladder it hurts like hell.. Doing a face plant and destroying probably someone else's airplane would hurt a wee more than that..

You're flying a fucking glider at low altitude around trees, where energy management and SA are the whole goddamn game; you decide this is also a good time to play cameraman? Nothing says aviator like occupying one of your hands while running out of altitude options and judgment

A few too many loopies, rushing the landing at spped and a terrible low turn over the trees...I want my money back.

It gives the impression that landing aprovação was poorly planned. Not enough energy was expended before intended touchdown zone. Forced to try desperately the sharp curve without enough energy for that.

That's too much risk in a simulator.

First, the guy in front is a passenger. He is filming the flight with a camera/phone. Second, this is textbook hot dogging. Those maneuvers at that low altitude are illegal in the US without a special rating and in designated areas only. Surely not with a passenger to boot!
