This goes a long way in explaining why revolution took hold in China and probably never will in europe-america.

ET. Comes down from the heavens, appears to a small group of innocent kids. He can do miracles including healing. Bad guys are out to get him, he dies but comes back to life, finally goes back up into the heavens and says if you need me just call. 😊

it will when enough people have nothing left to lose but their chains

This is actually correct and is a common tool used by western nations to disable movements.

Except America was formed on that bottom-rebellion.

this is interesting culture critque, but it ignires the material reality of the major communist revolutions where existing systems collapsed in relation to major wars/longterm stagnation. Cuba as an outlier notwithstanding. Revolution requires a true breaking point.

@IndieMediaHub Her framing is perfect. More about Sun Wukong (孫悟空) here:

Exactly! This is why I no longer look at Comic Book Heroes, the same way! After watching enough Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, I began 2 figure it out my self that, these Heroes are Defenders of the Status Quo!Between Marvel n DC, both have Rich WM, leading the Team of Heroes

Totally

Ridiculous idealism

Mmm….my issue with this is that the Christian faith originally was a bottom up movement. Christ was executed more because he called for debt cancellation and the movement was a rebellion against imperialists, the creditor class & oligarchs. It was twisted later to serve wealth.

Shit, I never realised.

It's an interesting idea, but Russia is an Orthodox country, and we've had 5 revolutions. The first revolution was in England. Then the French Revolution. It's not about Christianity, but about capitalism, which makes the poor believe that one day they will become millionaires.

She's describing Zionist complex which is now the de facto western Christian one. Hollywood is Jewish owned and run. It essentially dictates western pop culture which is all dervied from it.

Yeah, never gonna be a French Revolution, or a Russian Revolution, or an American Revolution for that matter.

I have to disagree. fiction/legends dont have to mirror society's true ideals. sometimes you make a story to counterbalance the current social norms. i dont think the western civilization lack the ability to rebel. it's just the pain is not enough to do a system reset.

I’ve been trying to explain how the right wing believes in hierarchy & necessitate a command structure to function. Right wing ideologies in general are built upon fantasy & a mythology of being saved by someone. They need a deity to tell them to be good people. The Groypers wait on Nick Fuentes’s instruction. MAGA blindly does whatever Trump says. Nazis are waiting for the next Hitler. They submit in obedience & wait around for a savior. This all makes them passive and susceptible to deception. It also explains why they have cuck fantasies. Historically, the left has just always had people who decided they would do it themselves & the best of the best arose among them if there was ever competition.

Been saying this exact thing when someone asks where's the revolution. Ppl are waiting to be saved and movies and Hollywood is a big reason why

You could also interpret it as YOU the everyday American can become the hero. There is some truth to her interpretation but it's not complete. It's also not true as there is plenty of protest and rebellion in even USA's short history

This is actually just insanely low grade literary analysis that betrays either a deep or willful ignorance of both Chinese and Western literacy traditions 💀 is she a college student or something?

She's right. The most revolting part is that it was deliberate. It's called cultural hegemony. The stories she talks about, are mostly made by jews. Harry potter is just a consumerist story too, teaching us a wizard needs the Nimbus 2000 like we need the Iphone 9.

Why is she comparing modern pop culture heroes to traditional folklore heroes? Isn't a better comparison to Robin Hood or King Arthur or even Frodo? And dosen't Wuxia commonly have the "saviour" type heroes anyways?

Incredibly funny to imply that China has a more revolutionary culture than the West when they needed Western phiilosophy and political thought to actually revolt against the dynastic system and they're a Communist country (no, Marx was not Chinese)

American culture does have a lot of what we call anti-hero narratives who reject the salvation line as nonsense - Escape From New York comes to mind. These themes tend to be suppressed as soon as they appear, though, like film noir was in the 1950s, labor revolutions in the 19th century, etc.

Hold up.. dragon ball z Goku is sun Wukong and he is the ultimate savior figure…

pumping the bellows for another’s ethno-narcissism is bad, actually

European countries famously never had communist revolutions

Also Chinese people are very compliant and it has nearly always been an imperial centralized power. She's kind of exaggerating. Literature through a certain lens ok, but she's reading books not reality

My honest opinion on the popularity of christianity during medieval times is that it's a religion of submission.

It would be easy to disprove this theory with a bunch of stories that do the opposite in each culture. This feels like cherry picking the references to fit a predetermined premise.

There’s something to this, but I think it’s a bit overfit. Sun Wukong and Nezha absolutely have deep roots as popular rebellious figures in Chinese folk culture. But Journey to the West is also literally a story where the rebel gets disciplined, joins an institution, and eventually becomes a gatekeeper himself. The explicitly “bottom-up revolution / class struggle” reading of Sun Wukong was much more heavily emphasized in modern China after 1949.

revolution took hold in China because the state was weakened by centuries of decline, colonialism, foreign invasion, and civil war. when the US government collapses, then you can ask why we haven't had revolution in the US

she has so idea what she's talking about. the beatitudes (matthew 5) and the magnificat (luke 1) are exactly contrary to what she's saying let alone the constant critique of the elite caste of pharisees let alone the USA's formation as a rebellion against the british empire

No these cultural explanations are goofy. And a conclusion that broad and deterministic should not be taken seriously. Mancur Olsen is better. He explains how collective action is possible

Then Sun Wukong met the ultimate "You will bow to the will of the universe" guy, Buddha. And he locked him up and then that monkey king only got out under the deal of being a leashed servant. Eventually lost all his rebellion as well for 'enlightenment'. Buncha a-hole deities.

the founding of the USA isn’t based on waiting for a savior, but yeah for sure there is an inherent pull to seek and lionize a hero, the founders tried wayyyy too hard to do it with Washington, so much so it even weirded him out
