RAAS INHIB is the line most people scroll past. Lose the GPS input and EGPWS is on baro altimetry alone. Embraer can call it safe, dispatch still pays.

A little thread about San Diego Airport and the approach to runway 27. The approach to 27 is unusual at a major international airport as it doesn’t have an instrument landing system or ILS. This is a couple of radio beams that are transmitted from the ground, down which the aircraft follows to touchdown. San Diego can’t have these as the yellow car park would interfere with them. So it has a single beam (localiser) giving centreline guidance or GPS (internal) approaches that use the aircraft systems. #aviation #Pilot #SanDiego #avgeek

This data is stored in the image file using a format known as EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format). Along with camera settings like time, date, and device model, EXIF data can also include the exact GPS coordinates of where the picture was taken. When someone takes a photo with location services enabled, the phone uses the Global Positioning System to record the latitude and longitude. These coordinates are automatically embedded into the image file’s metadata. If the image is shared without removing this metadata, anyone with basic tools or online metadata viewers can extract the GPS coordinates from the file. By entering those coordinates into a map service such as Google Maps, they can see the exact location where the photo was taken. The aircraft was not airworthy, not in the normal sense. A ferry flight is not a normal flight. The aircraft has a known defect that prevents it from carrying passengers. The defect cannot be repaired where the aircraft is, so it must be flown to a maintenance facility. It does not fly on a normal Certificate of Airworthiness. It flies under a Special Flight Permit: a one-time authorization that defines where the aircraft can fly, the crew required, and the operating limitations for that specific flight. I have been part of the process of preparing one of those permits. The defect is assessed. The risks are evaluated. The operating conditions are defined. The crew is fully briefed on the defect and its limitations. The route is planned around those limitations, and suitable alternate airports are selected. Then the aircraft departs, and you watch it leave, knowing exactly what condition it is in. That feeling stays with you. The permit exists because, in some cases, the safest option is to fly the aircraft under controlled conditions to a facility with the right people, tools, parts, and approvals, rather than attempt a repair where those resources are unavailable.

Today in a side room in parliament the government pushed ahead with policy to increase the number of, and role of, Physician Associates PAs are not doctors, nor GPs, and yet they are being phased in as doctor substitutes and GP substitutes - read that again This will create a two tier system of health service, those seen by qualified doctors and GPs, and those seen by PAs We desperately need more doctors and GPs, but instead of training and hiring them (Brexit has made it difficult to bring more in), this Conservative government is watering down the quality of service being offered by the NHS In 2010 the Conservatives inherited the NHS as one of the world's best health services. Since then they have underfunded the NHS, outsourced so we pay more for the same service, and now they're watering down the quality of staff. Shame on anyone who still votes for the Conservative party, because they are destroying our NHS

NTSB has published their report on the MedEvac plane that crashed into the Capitan Mountains, killing 4 first responders and sparking a wildfire that burned more than 30,000 acres. I heard a lot of rumors in the days after the crash but was cautious about repeating them. Seems the rumors were accurate. The pilot reported GPS issues. White Sands Missile Range was running GPS jamming that night. 3 other flights reported GPS issues as well. What a tragedy that never should have happened! No comment from WSMR yet. I don’t know what purpose the jamming serves but I suspect it’s something to do with training or testing. It would be common sense that jamming GPS when there are planes in the air is just an accident waiting to happen but I’ve never accused the government of possessing an ounce of common sense. If you can raise the money, you can get allocation in rounds. You don't have to compete. It's when you get above $50M that it becomes really challenging because you're going to be ownership-constrained. You're competing against someone like us. We write larger checks." "It's going to be really rare for solo GPs to grow fund size well beyond that. So you have to be comfortable being a fund of one with no help. And you have to be, because your fee structure is not going to be able to support much more than that." "But I am bullish on it — especially with AI tools. You can really diligence companies and run your back office entirely without needing other people." "[Solo GPs] have struggled to raise more recently. LPs are not deploying capital at the pace they were when solo GPs were breaking out in 2021 and 2022. In excess of 1,000 commercial flights per day are affected by GPS location spoofing. Writing this in an airport waiting for my flight to Barcelona, perhaps I should be a little more unnerved by that stat than I am! I recently visited Cranfield University, one of the UK’s leading aviation research centres, to discover more about the growing issue of GPS spoofing, its impact on civil aviation, and the measures being deployed to tackle it. Speaking with Peter Terry-Brown from Spirent is now Keysight, I learnt that: ✈️ 41,000 GPS spoofing events were recorded between the middle of August and middle of September last year. 📍 It’s not only aviation that’s affected by location spoofing, and it doesn’t only take place in active war zones. 🛡️ Like cyber security, there are a variety of testing, hardening and awareness measures needed to mitigate the threat. In excess of 1,000 commercial flights per day are affected by GPS location spoofing. Writing this in an airport waiting for my flight to Barcelona, perhaps I should be a little more unnerved by that stat than I am! I recently visited Cranfield University, one of the UK’s leading aviation research centres, to discover more about the growing issue of GPS spoofing, its impact on civil aviation, and the measures being deployed to tackle it. Speaking with Peter Terry-Brown from Spirent is now Keysight, I learnt that: ✈️ 41,000 GPS spoofing events were recorded between the middle of August and middle of September last year. 📍 It’s not only aviation that’s affected by location spoofing, and it doesn’t only take place in active war zones. 🛡️ Like cyber security, there are a variety of testing, hardening and awareness measures needed to mitigate the threat.
