I have seen people who live near the data centers talking about how their quality of life has been ruined. I've heard recordings of the noise these things make. I have no doubt that China wants to disrupt our economy, but don't try to put lipstick on the pig. Data centers are extremely problematic to people who are stuck living near them.

Although I don't want organized CCP opposition to data centers, those of us that live in rural agrarian areas don't want them on our own. Why not put data centers in the hollowed out cities in the closed factory areas that sit abandoned. The data center could only be an improvement.

I could solve the raising of electricity prices and actually get behind data centers if they would do two things. Make their own electricity and sell excess cheaply to the local residence that they are impacting. Secondly, use more expensive air cooling not water cooling. Use baffles to mitigate the noise. There are sound dimming systems that are super quiet for generation of electricity. They cost more but it’s not a huge cost relative to the sound attenuated power generation that can be achieved. But of course, this cost money and companies don’t like to spend any money unless they can get an immediate return. The immediate return as I see, it would be removing all of the hurdles that they’re going through to put these data centers in. If they would make and generate their own electricity and could actually cut the electricity of the people in the local surrounding towns by 20 or 50%, they could actually turn things around and be heroes. Maybe Kevin O’Leary will figure that out I think he’s a pretty smart guy.
