So, all energy of the impact is concentrated in your cervical vertebrae and upper spinal cord? I think the breakaway diffusion of energy is probably better.

Unless I’m trying to stop a bullet or let a truck run over my head, I want the helmet that breaks up and absorbs impact so my brain doesn’t get scrambled inside a rigid unbreakable shell.

Go for the ones that break. If it doesnt break, all the energy will transfer to your head.

Cars do the same thing. Crumple zones and other safety tid-bits that allow the vehicle to absorb the impact, and disintegrate.
