Mouth was agape! I’m glad she followed up with the comment about it not being her responsibility to protect them racist children cause who protects the black kids on the receiving end of that violence??

Her explanation to him was still too forgiving. It’s very much about her experience, which he should have kept his focus on. But even further than that, how is he able to recognize that she, as a child, recognized that the treatment she was receiving was wrong, which subsequently means that the kids doing it KNOW it was wrong whether they copied or not. Kids that age might say a curse word they learned from their parents- but won’t say it at home around them, know why? Cause they know it’s a “bad word.” So he’s fooling himself if he thinks these kids were out here repeating these statements just because they heard it before and not using it with intention.
