This insane: California and China both started their High Speed Rail projects in 2008 - California hasn’t completed a single track - China completed over 31,000 miles of track during the same time Here’s where it gets really crazy, I did the math on how much California is spending...

This suggests that California's government has been behaving a lot more like a socialist gov't than China's government........

Usually, when a budget for government spending gets approved and allocated, MONEY CAN ONLY BE SPENT ON THE APPROVED PURPOSE! Where the hell are the government auditors? And @GavinNewsom wants to run for President? He should be locked up.

Wow. It would be interesting to have a breakdown of who has received government contracts, and where exactly all the payments have went.

California created a massive slush fund for the elites in government. Not a rail system. China uses slave labor and has advantages that come from the end of a gun barrel. Both are gross and pathetic.

China and Democrats most likely split the Cal rail money. At least China got some work done with it.

California is absurd in many, many ways. Nonetheless, it’s a dumb comparison. People in China don’t have rights to fight projects, or fight government takeover of property. The government in China and the companies doing work on behalf of the government can do whatever the hell they want. I don’t want to be like California by any means, but there’s a cost to China’s efficiency that I don’t want to pay.

California never fails to find new ways to let me down. Such an amazing place to grow up, it’s such a shame to see how badly it has declined in my 30 years on earth. I hope big tech leaves so people can see what a failure CA dems truly are. But somehow it’s trumps fault always

Comparing per-mile costs across entirely different political and legal systems leaves out the real structural hurdles. Shouldn't we look at reforming project oversight instead?

This is like comparing apples to peanuts. China has a top down govt and they exercise their right to seize land, including homes, farmlands etc. And marginalized people have few if any legal options. CA is trying to build HSR through built out cities using existing rail in a blended system. They face dozens of lawsuits and have to acquire some of the most expensive land to do it. CA labor costs are also extremely high compared to China.

China kills people like Gavin Newsom. Here are some known executions of Chinese officials for corruption in recent years: 2025: Bai Tianhui (former general manager of China Huarong International), executed 9 December 2025 for taking more than 1.1 billion yuan in bribes. 2024: Li Jianping (former party secretary of Hohhot Economic and Technological Development Zone), executed 17 December 2024. His case is described as the largest corruption case in the campaign’s history (more than 3 billion yuan involved). 2021: Lai Xiaomin (former chairman of China Huarong Asset Management), executed 29 January 2021 for taking 1.79 billion yuan in bribes plus other charges. 2017: Zhao Liping (former vice-chairman of Inner Mongolia’s political consultative conference). He was executed in May 2017, but the sentence also covered murder and illegal firearms possession in addition to corruption.

HUGE ‼️ The Donald Trump Admin is taking the money they saved from Gavin Newsom’s failed high speed rail money laundering project and now using it to build America a High Speed Rail Project “The California project was never going to be built” “So it's fitting for us to be here today to announce the next steps in the Trump administration's agenda to usher in the golden age of rail in America. So today, I'm announcing a $5 billion dollar investment into America's rail system. $2 billion of these dollars actually are coming from an investment that the last administration made in high-speed rail in California” “I want us to invest in high-speed rail. Europe has it, Asia has it, America should have it. But the California project was never gonna be built” “The original projection was that this project was gonna cost $34 billion dollars. Well, the current projections are that it's gonna cost over $240 billion dollars. $200 billion dollars over budget. Over a decade, not one rail track has been laid” “So we pulled that money back, and now we're able to redeploy it into great projects that will drive safety, innovation, and a better experience for the American people. But again, California and its rail was never gonna be built. So let's build projects that we can actually deliver for by way of the American people” Remember, California Rep Carl DeMaio shows Democrats are going to fund their high speed rail with another $1 billion PER YEAR through 2045 even though no tracks are being laid. He said it’s because Democrats are giving these grants to their political donors as ‘no big contracts’ It’s a giant money laundering operation and nobody ever goes to jail
