This is a church which doesn’t have long for this world (aging congregation, small wealthy village uninterested in attending or funding upkeep), but it’s a real privilege to lead it. One of Britain’s forgotten treasures that will soon be lost because of secularism.

Thank you everyone for your interest in our lovely church! Normally I have at most two likes, so this has come out of the blue. A few responses to some comments: 1) We’re setting up an online donation portal, so watch this space this space if you are interested in giving. /1

2) Those giving advice about how to keep the church open, many thanks. We do have a thriving & growing town centre church, which we have tried in this rural church. Sadly, things haven’t worked out as well. /2

3) Some are saying it will become a mosque. This is illegal under UK law, in which a Church of England church cannot become the worship space of a non-Christian faith, even after being sold. /3

4) Some are saying it should ‘go back’ to the Roman Catholic Church. The problem is, it was never RC in the first place - it was built in the early 19th Century.

5) Some are making grand claims about immigration. Our town centre church is being renewed by young British converts and subsaharan and south Asian Christians. Sadly, our rural church doesn’t have this blessing.

Sadly, many Brits are throwing away or ignoring their heritage, including the riches of the Christian faith. But God does not abandon his church.

Respectfully, Britain's forgotten treasures are her people. Antiwhitism and White erasure are destroying Westernkind all across the West. If you want to save our lovely historic buildings, you must first champion to save our people. 🤍

Not secularism. The utter dilution of anything like a compelling version of Christianity. The liturgies never match the architecture these days. The latter is grandiose and inspiring, the former banal and tedious. I don't know the fix, but people just get bored of nothing feeling sacred.

Whether in prosperity or peril, the culture of family life should be built to flourish. Join us this April 24-26, 2025 as we proclaim this hopeful vision!

"Lost because of secularism" is I think only part of the story. "Lost because of neglect of the local and lack of vision, by church heirarchy" is another part of the story, I believe. Sad.

The Churches dumbing everything down to a bland, apologetic utilitarianism is at least as much at fault as secularism. Keep it going, people are starting to realise how hollow the assumptions of secularism are. Focus on the mystery of the Eucharist, encourage silent adoration..
