This is a deeply misinformed take, Dave Smith. As former Muslims, let us explain what’s being missed here. Within classical Islamic theology, non-Muslims are primarily condemned not for their actions, but for their beliefs – 'kufr' (disbelief in Allah) and 'shirk' (associating partners with Allah). These are treated not... merely as errors, but as offences against Allah himself. In that framework, rejecting Islam is considered a far greater transgression than anything a non-Muslim might do to Muslims – whether violence, occupation, or oppression. In fact, to hate non-Muslims mainly for their actions against Muslims, rather than for their disbelief, is blasphemy, for it inverts that moral hierarchy – placing harm to humans above what is understood as an offence against Allah. It's Good To Be Anti-Islam... but not anti-Muslim. 'Islam is an ideology—a set of ideas. It is not defined by what any individual Muslim wants it to be, but by what it inherently is. No ideology is above critique—particularly one that explicitly seeks political and social dominance over every person on the planet. Additionally, ideologies are not entitled to human rights; these rights apply to individuals. As an ideology, Islam is not necessarily entitled to equal respect and acceptance. Ideas do not carry equal moral weight. The feelings or the number of those who believe do not make an idea true or good. Bad ideas should be challenged before they lead to bad consequences. Islam is not simply a belief about God. The word 'Islam' means submission. It is a set of rules that define a social hierarchy where Muslims submit to Allah, women submit to men, and all non-Muslims submit to Islamic rule. Since we do not live in a Muslim country—where censorship, intimidation, and brute force are used to protect Islam from intellectual analysis—we are still somewhat free to openly exercise our right to debate the merits of the Islamic value system against Western Liberalism. Consider the following questions: Are men really superior to women as the Quran says? Are women intellectually inferior as Muhammad taught? Does propagating material that curses people of other religions amidst random calls to violence create a better social environment? Is it right to keep women as sex slaves merely because the Quran permits this practice in numerous places? Should atheists and homosexuals have to choose between the noose or an outward profession of faith in Allah? Is conformity superior to freedom? However, in contradiction, Quran 47.35 actually commands not to make peace with non-Muslims when you have the upper hand. It ranks 95th in the order of revelation. "So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allah is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds." Quran 2.106 resolves the contradiction by declaring that any later commandment abolishes the earlier commandment. "We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth [one] better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allah is over all things competent?" Can someone explain to me how it’s “Islamophobic” to be deeply alarmed by this? I’m not quoting critics of Islam. I’m not “misinterpreting” texts. I’m literally listening to Muslims themselves clearly affirm that, in an ideal Islamic state, apostates should be executed and that blasphemy deserves death as well. If that truly reflects their theology and their model society, why is fear considered irrational or bigoted? It isn’t hatred of Muslims to say this is terrifying, it’s a sober response to what the doctrine itself demands. In a Christian ideal society, people are free to believe or not believe. Violence is not the enforcement tool of orthodoxy. The highest moral expression is love, not compulsion. So why is it wrong to say that people have a legitimate reason to be afraid of a system that openly sanctions death for disbelief or criticism?
