I know you were a carpenter but you really should know the difference between cement, mortar, and concrete. BTW the surface looks great but if there are structural problems with original surface (cracks, loose bricks, etc.) don’t be surprised if they eventually reappear. Overlay is not structural and epoxy doesn’t stop cracks from reappearing. Oh, and don’t choose a dark color for your pool deck, your bare feet will thank you!👍🏻

@adamcarolla I like 70’s brick ribbons. They’ve lasted half a century and will probably last another 30 years. Plus, Boogie Nights was great. I’d add a couple of those little black Hibachi’s, an alcove with some retro consoles and invite roller girl over and call ‘er done.

@adamcarolla I sell the stuff. It's great stuff, but expensive material and with all the surface prep, still very labor intensive. Not a "pennies on the dollar" alternative, but there are a lot of finishes to choose from and a lot less down time from enjoying your pool.

@adamcarolla Let’s check in on this after a good season of expansion and contraction. A thin topcoat over structural cracks and expansion joints will show its worth real quick. Love ya Ace but most overlays are temporary bandaids.

I've done thousands of square feet of what is now called "MicroCement". It needs a sound structural surface before it can be applied because it is only a veneer coating. I live in NJ and brick is rarely a sound underlayment with frost heave and all. Maybe in SoCal but I would never do that here.

@adamcarolla The old 70s brick lasted 50 years. Question is how long this microcement will last? Hope you have a solid sub base and you won't be dropping anything heavy accidentally.

@adamcarolla I have installed this over 50+ pool decks. The base is Surecrete from S/w. Then we can do any type of pattern or texture with a 2 sealcoats. In Florida we generally do this around $3.50-$4 sq ft. And yes it does last

@adamcarolla Well, Adam, I hope it works for you. Here in Florida we have something similar for porches and pool decks. But I’ve heard mixed reviews here. Most likely due to the humidity and moisture in the air. SoCal might be much different. Keep me posted. I wanna know how long it last.
