Cool demo. Looking like you’re using servo motors, which are often a bit jittery. Do you think AI can smooth and speed up those movements in the future? Right now you need expensive motors and controllers to get smooth motion..

Robotics is too hard to solve alone. So lowering the entry point is crucial. Also, ROS proved open ecosystems create lasting industry standards. How does that work? META: Open source is good for users because it lets them read the source code and see what the program is really doing and how it works. This is Siemens SGT 400 gas turbine. It can produce up to 12mw of power. Power that is essential to live - a human right basically. Look at it. It costs several million dollars. This is the tax developing world pays to Germany. What is in this thing that it can't be manufactured locally ? Ask yourself. Why is it so hard to replicate ? Is it always going to be like this ? We are in 2020s now. How about 2030 ? Do you think this will be manufactured locally in 2030 ? I don't think so. Software Tech is easily replicable due to the culture of open source. Manufacturing has no culture of open source. For right or wrong reasons. So even after 100 years of inventing this, most of of the world is still trying to figure out how to replicate this. And I think it will take 100 more years at this pace. Also, 2 decades of our smartest building ad software has resulted in this tech not moving forward. Everything in core hard tech is imported - turbines, machinery, electronics - you name it. So young smart people seeing this - please go and design this and make this cheaper. It's not just about India. The entire developing world needs this cheaply.

This is what open robotics actually looks like! 🔓 I was in Bordeaux, sitting inside Pollen Robotics, and had a chance to play around with their humanoid robot Reachy 2. It’s expressive, modular, and can even bring you coffee, and of course runs Python or Rust. I was talking with Reachy in 3 different languages, tele-operating it and manipulating kitchen stuff, and make it even mimic my gestures. The best part is that there are no locked APIs, or hidden stuff, just an open platform that you can build upon. The connection with Hugging Face makes it super easy to start, as the open source approach allows everyone to contribute, experiment and add their own things. Robots has a data problem, in that robotics data is rare. While human video is quite common, it’s not usually directly usable for robots for a variety of reasons, most significantly that it’s missing explicit, accurate robot actions. Instead, Jeremy Collins proposes that we predict keypoint trajectories — basically, how any given point in an object will move as a robot performs a task.
