Yup it bounced & he hit it … which is what Szobo did, bounce and hit, no one cares if it’s rising or dropping from the bounce, just like you can hit a volley when the ball is rising or dropping.

Nonsense. Next.

So yer let the ball bounce & wait for it to drop when you play heads & volleys yeah? Weird that la

@Carl_M79 I actually think it’s this game that’s confused everyone. The guy you’re arguing with is spot on.

@FlutterNutterz @Carl_M79 No, he’s not.

@FlutterNutterz @Carl_M79 The debate is all about how much emphasis you put on the word “just”. A ball can still be considered to be air-borne after a significant bounce.

@FlutterNutterz @Carl_M79 If I just spike a football into the ground and it flies 7ft into the air and then I kick it before it lands, it’s a volley. The last thing it hit was the ground but it was airborne. A half-volley is a very specific thing.

@ScottMescu6250 @Carl_M79 Half volley, it’s hit the ground. You love over complicating things, get a job in VAR lad

Yep. Gerrard v Olympiakos, too.

And still idiots can't fucking grasp the nuance. 🤷

‘Fkin grasp the nuance’… T-shirt stuff. that, mate 👍🏻

Hitting the ball just after it bounces = half volley Hitting the ball before it bounces= volley

Volley or Half Volley? Not sure if it was Bill or Bob that said it but… “Just stick it in the net and we’ll talk about the options later”.

Sure, but this is a half volley.

I am finding it really disconcerting that so many didn’t grow up just knowing this. The ball is kicked to you in the air by someone else and you strike it before it hits the ground - volley. You strike it as it hits the ground - half volley. After it hits the ground, no volleys.

Catching it just after it bounces . The perfect half volley 👏🏽

Yep. Any shot that has bounced off the turf before strike is a half volley. A full volley is striking it before a bounce

Carl's profile picture

Nope. Not quite. That's just a ball that has bounced. Very different.

Striking a ball that is in the air is a volley. If the ball has come direct from a pass without bouncing, (technically more difficult) it's a volley. If the ball has bounced before striking (technically less difficult) it's a half volley

Yes! Finally. So many people get the half volley label wrong.

A half volley is time stamped? The ball must be hit within a split second of it bouncing up off the floor?

All this it's "bounced" nonsense A ball hit in mid air with your foot underneath it is a volley wether it's bounced or not A ball still half on the ground bouncing back up is a half volley

Volley is no bounce, half volley is one bounce.. you can also hit it 'on' the half volley which is when the ball is touching the ground.. You're welcome
