This is a problem. Conflict of interest rules shouldn't be about protecting politicians from paying taxes. It should be about protecting the public from powerful politicians making decisions that benefit themselves & their friends. We need to change the law.

I actually don't miss this political theatre - it's quite sad and pathetic as nothing ever happens.

7 out of the 10 projects Mark Carney has announced is a conflict of interest, he has investments in the companies he has announced will be a part of the projects. he does not care about Canada or Canadians; He only cares about making himself richer to the detriment of Canada

What about laws for Deputy Chief and Chief and the Top Brass? Why not let the people of Ontario choose their Chiefs and Top brass?

@McgonigleVicky If we are going to elect a highly conflicted person, then the conflict of interest can be assumed 100%of the time. Carney should not be able to discuss literally anything.

Canada is broken

Like Brookfield and Carney they are into modular homes and heat pumps to name a few

I think we can assume that nothing will be done around the conflict of interest issue with Carney. We have reached a place of ,what appears to be , "no return" when it comes to the corruption allowed to operate within this government.

OMG...this is legal in Canada? FFS Canada is lost. Whoever made these laws are the true criminals. Whoever said MPs get raises for poor performance is a criminal. Whoever said pay MPs over the summer break for doing nothing is a criminal. Tax is the theft used by Liberals.

Harper was elected in 2006 to "change the law." He did sweet fuck all to hold politicians and bureaucrats to account. I'm SO pissed a Conservatives who did nothing when they had a chance, and didn't even campaign on doing anything in the last 3 elections.

You should be shut down until the slush fund documents are produced Another coward mouthpiece

Then do it. Stop talking about it. Tired of all the talk, let's see a non-confidence vote.

Beyond

I think your motivations are good, Mike, but I do agree with the Ethics Commissioner that requiring an individual to trigger all that tax because they entered the public service is a formidable roadblock. That wouldn’t be right either. Gotta find a way around that IMO.

He murdered Canada and it’s not a conflict

Or change the way your representatives are elected.

Speaking of ethics Mike .. have you signed the petition that calls for legislation to penalize MPs who lie and spread disinformation. You can sign here:

Conflict guy is a joke, lots of "not my job", and it sounds like he's operating under the assumption that politicians are honest. 😂Many laws and many policies need to be changed. Politicians making ethics rules for themselves has cost Canadians billions with zero accountability.

Do I hear Brookfield investments, Carney

Here here!

It should have all started with WPGA transparency and disclosure of the respondent……but he is your friend…..and pensions and perks are worth more then the truth…..

People with too much stake in how policy affect their personal business (in or out of a blind trust) should not be making decisions for Canada. The divest / invest by a trusted investment manager would be far better for all Canadians.

The problem is that there wasn't a No Confidence vote in Parliament today. This government is Tyrannical and actively harming our society in so many ways. You should have enough evidence. People are tired of being fleeced and displaced.

♥️Your first day on the job, and it's a home run.

Government employees do not pay taxes

Stop rage-farming. You know damn well the comment about taxes was about the chilling effect it would have on getting quality, potential candidates, if they knew they had to sell off all their investments and pay massive amounts of tax from the sale.

Interesting how Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, Konrad Von Finckenstein was absolutely unable to see potential conflict of interest/ ethics. Thank you MP Barrett for helping Konrad Von Finckenstein understand the law as it stands. @WillWJGreaves @2ChicksPolitics

Like what pierre and his wife did during covid?

Absolutely! Thank you Mr. Barrett.

What did you mean by "top bunk", Mike?
