Here is both the sideline and end zone view of the big miss from Hurts to AJ in the loss to the Broncos My thoughts on the play: ** AJ definitely slows up. If he doesn’t I’m not sure it is completed but it has a much better chance to be a TD. But no question him slowing up was a big reason why it wasn’t completed. ** Hurts holds onto the ball a tick longer than he should have, a theme in the game. I don’t think that is why it is incomplete but it didn’t help. ** I think AJ slowed up because he felt the ball wasn’t coming since he was already so far down the field and it hadn’t been thrown yet. To me that is probably the result of frustration from that happening a lot this season as opposed to solely on this play. ** Bottom line is this has to be a TD. This isn’t a backup QB to a No. 3 WR. This is Hurts to AJ. They needed the play and it didn’t get it done. ** Most concerning part of the play to me isn’t that it was incomplete. That is bad but it will happen. To me the most concerning part is they didn’t talk on the sideline afterwards about it. Bad sign.

The Eagles need Hurts to play this way before the game is lost. I don't know what portion of the conservatism is attributable to Hurts' preference vs coaching, and at the end of the day it doesn't matter. The hyper-aversion to risk is kneecapping the offense. This is a great throw on a concept that isn't even that good. No crossing routes, no conflicted defenders. Just a dig route over the middle of the field and a laser beam from a muddy pocket for a big 3rd down conversion

COACHES: This is the beautiful game. One of the best ways to create offense on the rush is a delay and then finding the second wave beating the opponents up the ice. It's one of the hardest plays to defend as it takes incredible communication and sort outs defensively to do it right. Here are two great plays from last night. There's a "Gretzky escape" towards the wall and then great passes to D that have jumped up in the play. As a coach, you should be doing drills every practice that have a delay concept to it. It's such an important part of the game now. Great job by WPG and DAL!!
