To all the people that think the river is natural and will look after it’s self

They want rivers to flood so they can blame climate change! We are left to fend for ourself due to government incompetence and then get in trouble for it

Staightening and removing bank vegetation increases flow speeds and accelerates the erosion of silt. The subsequent deposition downstream increases flood risk elswehere. "Protecting" his land by threatening lives downstream is unacceptable. Then there's fisheries+biodiversity...

Imagine if we had a government body that did this work starting at the out fall #bringbacktheNRA

River Lugg ends up in the Wye, further downstream the riverbed is bedrock like here in Ross, all that water getting to us faster is just going to put more homes here at risk, dredging won't work on bedrock. We need to hold water in soil to #slowtheflow

Olly, you are doing a great job of damaging the reputation of farmers. Well done. Don’t forget he admitted guilt and has been repeatedly breaking rules and ignoring stop notices for a long time.

The onus shouldn’t be placed on scooping silt out from the rivers, it just shouldn’t be there in the first place. The harsh truth is that farmers need to get their act together and prevent their soil from washing away into the rivers. In the lugg catchment there are some.. (1/2)

Dredged rivers increase flow and increase flood risk. Trees also… and I mean shock horror… self seed so you know they may have done just that. Age does not define importance. Wildlife/environmental crime justifies large sentences to deter people from doing it.

I understand what your saying but If you see the devastation floods can cause to wildlife you would thing differently The worlds not perfect sadly
You compare silting a river to blocking a loo. It’s a fair comparison. 1 of the things that we do if a loo gets blocked is to stop putting stuff in it that blocks it (wet wipes etc). If river is blocked by silt we need to reduce the silt and change methods to reduce erosion

The best veg ground in the country is formed from river carrying silt and then being drained to think man can stop water erosion completely is insane No till farming is a massive step mind
