Speaking as someone who didn't get to play a lot of the games i wanted as a kid because i didn't have a computer, watching let's plays (mainly no-commentary, but sometimes Markiplier or someone like that) was always a way for me to get interested and get in on the hype.

Like many things it depends. Watching an LP of Sekiro isn't the same as playing it but there's realistically not much difference between watching an LP of a visual novel or a David Cage game and playing it

you can't buy every game and some games don't come to the console you had (well that used to be the case) you experience the same story so it is virtually the same experience. there could be differences but they're pretty minor.

Even if they played the game they wouldnt be experiencing it either, theyd be playing a youtube video on the other monitor and skipping cutscenes. No point in trying to convince them, and theyre probably getting more out of the lets play than they would from playing it tbh
