@palkisu She’s an upright one, without a biased stone within her. She doesn’t shovel around, always ready to call that spade - a spade with grit, determination and facts.

Let me jog your memory for a bit: German FM Fischer famously said "excuse me I am not convinced" to Rumsfeld before the Iraq invasion. See following translation: "We are not finished with the one job yet, not foreseeable finished, even with the question of the destruction of the al kaida network, far from finished. None of us knows if we will not have a terrible terrorist attack again tomorrow, which does not come from Saddam Hussein, but which comes from the corner where the greatest danger lurks, namely from Islamist terrorism. None of them knows if we will be confronted with it again tomorrow. And that's why the first critical question is in place: Why this prioritisation now? In Afghanistan, the promise would suddenly arise Arab democracy... We owe the Americans our democracy. They are very important for stability and peace especially. We Germans would never have been able to free ourselves from the Nazi regime without America. The Americans allowed us to build up our democracy but in this democracy my generation has learnt... (switches to English) You have to make the case, and to make the case in a democracy you have to be convinced yourself, and excuse me I am not convinced, this is my problem and I cannot go to the public and say, well let's go to war because there are reasons and so on, and I don't believe in that." "... against Iraq with a strong force and you will have to occupy Iraq permanently." Source: So: NATO & Germany honored NATO article 5 post 9/11. One certainly can make the case that that should not have happened either. BUT if someone criticizes international law & institutions, then the broad brush dismissal of them is too unspecific

@palkisu India found confidence 10-15 years ago? Refused to join US in Iraq/Afghanistan war. Nuclear tests in 1998/1974 despite international pressure. Non-alignment since the start of cold war when India was v poor. Public memoryis weak but journalists should have higher standards.
