Holy shit 👀 This is what I've always wanted. I have some selfish requests, if I may be greedy. 1) Crosshair options. 2) Increase buffer on roll input, since I was having a hard time using it consistently on 20fps SNES version. 3) If possible some kind of analog support.

Consider them done

This is why PC is amazing, the only place where I can get native ports of old gems with modern options. What a time to jump from console to PC. Great job!

This is BLOWING my mind, man!

when is release. i need to see this game running at 60 at the correct pacing. I NEED IT!

Have at it!

can you add 90fps as an option for the steamdeck?

Sure, why not

thanks! maybe 16:10? if it runs well this could be a great deck game. sf2 running this smooth would break my brain.

16:10 is doable too

just saw that got posted. Loving all of this. If you have time do you think its possible to remove the lod or is that not possible. It would be amazing seeing the entire world move without pop in. on some of the space sections it would legitimately change the game.

I've been considering things like that, sadly when things pop in they start their routines so a further draw distance may not be doable. But we'll see.

The framerate of the original put me off from really getting into it. This solves my only real complaint about the game. Amazing.

Amazing work! Looking forward to playing the full thing!

"SuperFX 2? SuperFX 3? Nah, that's the SuperFx86 version."

BROTHER! I shed a tear. Playing this on my 4K tv max volume gonna be an unforgettable trip

Frame rate is good?!?!?

Remember playing this a LOT on the Nintendo (with FX chip in the cartridge which was wild!)

Hi Kando! I think this is what Nintendo should have done a long time ago! You've been working hard for many years optimizing Star Fox and it looks that this time you will reach perfection. I imagine that Ex will be next? Anyways, Thanks for your contributions to the gaming scene.

Indeed it is next!

I wonder if timing can be adjusted in the intro so it doesn't cut out early, I remember the Link's Awakening PC port had the same problem but it was eventually fixed, hopefully the same will be possible for this! It's looking great so far!

Bravo @kandowontu

I'd like to imagine this is what the developers saw as they created it, and it was only when it was put on the SNES that it went really, really slow.

you have no idea how long i've been waiting to see someone tackle something like this super excited to see how it develops

I hope to make this the definitive edition!!

@HackerVilela OMG, it's so ugly. And you know what? That's what makes it not even a bit less memorable but quite the opposite. ^^ I think I know EVERY FRAME of that intro fully reproducible in my mind. :D I am looking forward to play this version ^^

Is this for PC?

Yup

I don't like wide-screen 😞 retro games aren't meant for that sort of thing

Thats ok! There's still 4:3/16:9/16:10/21:9, and if you dont like 60/120/240/360 fps, you can also do 20 or 30!

@DaminMance But what if I want to play at 5 FPS and die in 30 seconds?! 😂

@kandowontu 🤣

Star Fox at 60 FPS. Finally after 30 something years! The higher FPS should make the game actually easier to play! That was one of the sticking points of the original was the low frame rate made controlling your fighter difficult at times! Hard to aim, etc. So this is revolutionary 🤩🥰

looks amazing, outstanding work

You're making my dreams come true.

👏👏👏👏

@Sadist_Magus

You are just having too much fun arent you? Is most of this done with AI automatic coding?

Yes I am! And yes.

Imagine you polish this PC port and it gets running well. Then at some point you could make it moddable right!? Just like Skyrim has mods, Starfox on PC could have mods! 😃 Think of someone makes an open world Starfox RPG?! 🤯🤯

this is great and im willing to try it since a pc native of the og star fox sounds amazing, however i saw in a post that this was "ai assisted" can you elaborate in what exactly? i tried ai/vibe coded stuff before and had awful experiences/results so id love to know

Yes, its Vibe coded - I use GPT 5.6 Sol on X-High, and provided the original source code, our ultrastarfox modded code, some starfox EX code, and I'm also directly telling it what files things are in as I've spent 5 years modding the original source.

@dreamywolfdd Because AI codes better than people these days. GPT 5.6 Sol is insane. Also Linus himself is vibe coding things for Linux. Windows has vibe coded Windows 11 things. Time to seperate the term "AI" from the term "slop" - they aren't always the same thing.

@TLFOXN64 im honestly disappointed to hear this coming from someone like you knowing the amazing stuff you have done with romhacking star fox and understanding the superfx chip before giving in to vibecoding, from what im seeing you just depend on tokens for the dev of this

@TLFOXN64 and tbf just because linus torvalds mentioned "he is okay" with it doesnt give you an excuse to go "they use it so its okay for me to use it", he even called it bad for production overall and absolutely not for kernel additions

@TLFOXN64 at the end of the day me replying all this wont add to anything and im not seeking to change your mind about it, just expressing its very bumming seeing a person like you throw its talents away for an awful use of technology dressed as "the future", this aint it

Also is it possible to make the camera movement smooth like the rest? The horizon looks a bit jerky when moving side to side

Yes
