This is cool, Bryson DeChambeau giving a lesson to Wesley Bryan. “Swing really hard and stall your hands” I have no idea if that will work for me, but you know I’m trying it as my next swing tip. (Swing tip #693). Actually, I do hit a lot of... show more

Rick, with all due respect, a 10 handicap has no chance of this tip doing anything but make something worse… taking tips from a man with .001% elite speed directed at another tour pro isn’t the proper information to be looking for on the range

I’m sure you are right, but I’m an 8 so should work perfectly.

I certainly don’t meant that as a troll either. I’m a 0 to +1 almost 40, and I am a former teacher before leaving the business. But the key is teaching people what they’re capable of achieving. I’ll teach a 25yo athletic kid Bryson techniques

In summary, you as a 45-50yo will generate more speed with proper balance and weight shift principles, than you would ever dream of with lag, delay and hand action in the golf swing.

@Top100Rick The only thing he’s teaching here is a release and how to square the face to path there’s nothing physically demanding about this, just face awareness

@nickysmalls__ @Top100Rick You can interpret it your own way, that’s allowed. By all means try that on the range next time you practice

All he told him to do was release the clubhead. Golfers feel this in different ways. I struggled with blocks and pushes for years, trying to hold lag and all that BS. Learned to release the club again.

@RobertTyreMarks What helped you release? I push or duck hook

Simply focussing getting the toe up on the follow through. For some reason I was consistent leaving the face open a hair. My path was/is pretty consistent 2-3° inside out. I almost never hit duck hooks. We’re all different.

@RobertTyreMarks Yeah you were already a good player so likely different issues. I cast while also being 2-3 inside out. Which is a recipe for left.

Inside approach plus cast sounds like a recipe for fats and drop kicks. Common errors. Find a good coach. Maybe one over 60. 😀

This is literally how I was taught to hit my draw by my coach. My path is naturally very in to out and it was easier to do this to play the draw more consistently than it was to adjust my path.

Gonna start really trying to improve once I have my sim. Just going in circles doing it myself.

Get a good mat. Get another mat with longer grass to replicate rough and having to dig down at the ball, otherwise hitting off a mat a bunch makes you worse lol

That’s a definite concern. Mainly focused on speed training and wedge game indoors, at least that’s the plan.

Shoulda went with a gc quad or something for gspro. Trackmans ecosystem is absurdly restrictive and overpriced for what it offers tbh. They couldn’t pay me to go that route

@Top100Rick I’m on a budget and thinking about getting the rapsodo mlm2 pro. I’m lefty sons righty. This seem like a good idea. Can’t afford overhead unfortunately. Thanks in advance

@Top100Rick The Rhapsodo is as good as anything else for full swings, but if you wanted to do simulator tournaments (I love the SGT tour on gspro) you’ll have to do autoputt leagues or set up an external webcam (you’ll want a decent one) and it won’t be the most accurate thing in the world.

Oh Rick…don’t go down that rabbit hole my friend. 😂

Too late

I think I broke my wrist doing that at the range!!!😫

I think Wesley should put on 40 pounds and use all the same length irons

@grok provide a link to the full video

I believe if I swing at 110%, I’ll be almost 70% as fast as @brysondech

Fuck DeChambeau.

I played briefly in college at SDSU years ago, this is exactly how I learned to hit draws and it was also a bit of technique and drill work doing this to square the face more effectively. I’m still a 4 today and I still use this technique and the drills associated with it today.

Mighty fine line between a "stall" (good) and a "flip" (bad) for the lesser-skilled among us 😳

Wesley is going to be top 10 in the world after that tip

Does that mean it can get me from an 8 to a 5?

8 to a 2

😂

It’s called releasing the club. You can overdo it each way.

How is this tip different than Hit Hard, Stop Quick?

I’ve never heard that

When I do that, I pull hook everything.

Stalling hands idea sounds like disaster more many golfers...

How does one stall their hands?

Rick, find a good teacher. Don’t waste your time and effort screwing around with “swing tips”

teaching stupid stuff Bryson needs me to figure it out

This is gold if your face to path is always +2.0 or more. That +4.0 open face at impact is always a round killer.

His demo of the "FWOOM" looks like a Bubba Watson impersonation

So this is what he meant the other day when he said he expects a longer suspension from PGAT. He’s just sort of “nah nah nah boo boo, I’ll do what I want!” But he’s 36 with surgeries. How much longer would he have been competitive anyway?

Almost like a Mike Austin regarding the idea of not to keep moving the hands and releasing the club.

Taking this thought to the range. Will report back with an update 🫡

This is EXACTLY what Steve Pratt has be preaching for 15 years. Go watch a bullwhip being cracked. The hand stops right when it gets back to the right shoulder.

Creating lag has been a key to speed and distance since Christ was a cowboy. This shouldnt be news

Love the “how many times do you get to get a lesson from Bryson before your round?”

This also creates a whip effect that can't happen as intensely if you're hands keep moving at the same speed at impact. Stopping the hands is like snapping a towel. Seems counterintuitive until you feel the easier power that comes from it.

Now gotta figure out how to do it

Try to stop your club after impact before it gets to parallel (you won't be able to, but try). It might feel like a punch shot type of follow through at first. Or some might call it cutting off your follow through. Only way to do it is to stop your hands.

I don't get it

This is Mike Bender teaching in a nutshell

Thanks for sharing. I have been experiencing the same issue with spotty success and not sure why. Will definitely be trying out this swing thought tomorrow!

Try it with any variation of less than full swing speeds to dial it in.
