@SenLummis his comment about other industries having efficiency standards misses the fact that bitcoin miners are only competitive by being as efficient as possible. We are financially incentivized to be as efficient as we can possibly be, or we risk not being profitable at all.

@TheCryptoLark Excellent line of questioning. Thanks for keeping it very clear & simple. There's a clear double standard about gov't regulating energy use. Bitcoin mining is considered 'illegitimate', but energy used in computerized, high-frequency, speculative asset trading is 'legitimate'?
