@SenLummis his comment about other industries having efficiency standards misses the fact that bitcoin miners are only competitive by being as efficient as possible. We are financially incentivized to be as efficient as we can possibly be, or we risk not being profitable at all.

I can argue btw that driving is also not necessary work, we have legs for moving around
