Over 200 facial recognition cameras were installed in New Orleans and have been scanning Americans faces 24/7 The police worked with a NGO to go through data and profile Americans for arrest using artificial intelligence “You know about all the facial recognition cameras in New Orleans, right? Oh, you mean you didn't notice the over 200 cameras scanning faces 24/7? Well, they're here, and many are located in the city's French Quarter. For years, over 15 million people who visit this neighborhood annually have been quietly documented while local police were automatically notified if AI software found a match to a person of interest. The problem? AI isn't always accurate, and it has more errors among people with darker skin tones, women, children, and the elderly. Because of these limitations, privacy experts agree that AI-generated facial recognition matches will lead to wrongful arrests. Which is why when the New Orleans City Council first allowed police to use facial recognition technology in 2022, they chose to protect privacy and ban any mass generalized surveillance of the public, except the police did it anyway with the help of a local nonprofit that owns and operates the cameras. It wasn't until the spring of 2025 that the AI-generated alerts were first revealed to the public and turned off. So for now, the AI-generated alerts remain paused, but the facial recognition cameras, they'll remain while New Orleans debates whether or not to be the first US city to give law enforcement the power to track residents and tourists in real time”

New Orleans Police secretly monitoring law abiding citizens with facial recognition cameras throughout the city “Wow, the police have gone too far with this one. In New Orleans, facial recognition is being used to monitor everyday people and compare them with wanted suspects or people around crime scenes. Not only are cameras in New Orleans being used to identify people with facial recognition, meaning that they're scanning people 24/7. You walk around, your face is being scanned. Not only is that the problem, but also this facial recognition system that the New Orleans Police Department is using and is actually pinging police officers phones as it scans and recognizes people that are either wanted or committed a crime or are a suspect of doing something worth monitoring and worth being notified about. I don't know about you, but as somebody who cares about my privacy, my security, this whole new world of facial recognition, biometric scanning, all of this stuff, it seems to be going a little bit too far. We already know facial recognition struggles to really identify people, especially people of color. So know that these, these technologies are very new. There's going to be a lot of nuances and a lot of people are not informed. If you are in New Orleans or you're around any major city, you better assume that this technology is being used against you. And if you're a regular, everyday, law abiding citizen, you have the opportunity to protect yourself now before other people really even catch on to this. — There is literally no better time to start protecting your privacy now and understanding facial recognition biometric, because this is where the entire world is headed.”

David Sacks: The AI Regulatory Frenzy at the State Level is “Very Concerning” “Let me give you some stats on this.” “All 50 states have introduced AI bills in 2025.” “There's been over 1,000 bills in state legislatures.” “118 AI laws have already been passed across the 50 states.” “Everyone just seems to be motivated by the imperative to ‘do something’ on AI, even though no one's really sure what that something should be.” “And there's no real agreement on what all these AI regulations are supposed to do, or what the risks are, so they're just making things up.” “So you've got 50 different states each with their own reporting regime, which is going to be a trap for startups because they've all gotta figure this out about what they're supposed to report on, what the deadlines are, who to report to.” “And if you wanna see where this is going, look at Colorado.” “This has already been passed into law, SB 24-205, Consumer Protections for Artificial Intelligence. It bans something they call ‘algorithmic discrimination.’” “Algorithmic discrimination is defined as unlawful differential treatment or disparate impact based on protected characteristics. So things like age, race, sex, disability.” “If any of those factors drive an AI decision and it results in a disparate impact, then both the developer of the AI model and the deployer, which means the business that's using it, can be in violation of this law and they can be prosecuted by the Colorado Attorney General.” “The only way that I see for model developers to comply with this law, is to build in a new DEI layer into the models, to basically somehow prevent models from giving outputs that might have a disparate impact on protected groups.” “So we're back to Woke AI again, and I think that's the whole point.”
