Metal and plastic parts replace the ends of both bones to create a new joint. The kneecap is put back in place and the incision is closed. - Partial Knee Replacement: This is done when for example arthritis affects only one half of the knee. Only the bones on the affected side are replaced with metal or plastic parts. The incisions are smaller and recovery is quicker.
