Mountains are created through a variety of geological processes that shape the Earth's surface over millions of years. The three primary processes that lead to the formation of mountains are volcanic activity, folding, and faulting. 1Volcanic Activity: When molten rock, ash, and other volcanic materials are expelled from the Earth's crust during a volcanic eruption, they can pile up and create mountains. Examples of volcanic mountains include Mount Fuji in Japan and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. 2Folding: Folding occurs when tectonic plates collide, causing the Earth's crust to buckle and fold, resulting in the formation of mountains. The Himalayan mountain range, which includes Mount Everest, was formed through the folding of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. 3Faulting: Faulting happens when the Earth's crust is fractured, and one side of the fracture is pushed up or down relative to the other side. This process can create mountains, such as the Sierra Nevada range in the United States. These processes often work together to create the diverse and majestic landscapes we see in mountain ranges around the world.
