We can’t seriously believe that the people demanding the West be punished for slavery through reparations actually have a principled problem with slavery, especially not when they’re still practicing it themselves. Because the truth is they never had a problem with it. They didn’t when they were enslaving each other and selling people to the West or the Arabs. And they certainly don’t have one now. Modern slavery gets ignored or excused whereas centuries old Western involvement gets treated like the original sin of humanity. And today, the West that once ended the trade is blocked from stopping Africans from enslaving each other because that would be “neo-colonialism,” “imperialism,” or “foreign intervention.” But anti-slavery is a purely Western concept.
