the "Grab a brick" experiment in Granville Island was pretty effective I must say.

Nothing like a little "surprise bollard" to help drivers remember where their brakes are.

i like the 'walk with a brick' idea better :D

This is just an ad. These don't actually exist.

This was an informative commercial released by the provincial auto insurance agency to remind drivers to let pedestrians have the right of way.

It's fake and that shit would never work during winter xD

I was visiting Quebec and stopped at a pedestrian crossing for someone to cross and got honked at 🤣

That would be both funny and carnage in London

3 years ago it was the other way around in Montreal. You had pedestrians jay walking anytime and anywhere on the streets they wanted and cars were coming to a stop to accommodate them.

My hometown solved it by spending a week stopping and ticketing every car that didn't stop for pedestrians in a crossing. They also gave (fine-less) tickets to pedestrians who crossed anywhere but the crosswalks (every short block). Made a huge difference.

The US solved this problem in 1915 with simple invention

When the bars go down do they squish people?

Chile resolved this with education decades ago. It is almost imposible to see a driver not stopping when someone is about to cross at corners with no traffic lights.

It's not solved at all. They made this experiment a long time ago and it was only for a day...

Maybe just hold a brick in ur hand while crossing?

This is genuinely brilliant problem solving. Sometimes the best solutions are the most obvious ones we never think of

Or, stay with me here, a stop sign.

I don't know WHERE in Quebec these are... But they are needed.

Yeah... been living in the province for about 30 years now and never seen that. Also, this can only work in summer - in winters, this shit is never going up. But cool concept. Pedestrian crossing need to be respected.

@LiveWireGuides After a year in Kavala, I miss Greek drivers. They never honked at pedestrians, even the ones who drifted across. Just slowed and waited. Their calm said: we all have somewhere to be.

Fabulous idea. More crosswalks across Canada need this especially in downtown areas of big cities like Toronto, Vancouver and others.

I think guns being involved would've made a stronger point, but it's Canada🤷‍♂️

The idea itself isn't bad, but it won't last long because some idiot will drive into the bollards.

Yeah we don't have a lot of crossings that aren't at a traffic light or a four-way stop where I live in the suburbs The few I saw were on college campuses or near schools and with indications that pedestrians had priority I wouldn't try it in downtown Montreal

I don't understand why the crossing isn't more visible in the first place. In some countries zebra crossings/pelican crossing are raised - to the same level as the pavement. This provides a visible clue the space belongs to the pavement (pedestrians) rather than the road (cars)
