Oh great. I thought they assign one person to listen the mic and find the song name by memory

in unrelated news: cameras don't actually "see", they simply tell the screen what colours to change to based on light levels

Zero understanding but all I know it is a great app

Geometry is how the world works To understand the world to some extents, you gotta understand geometry to some extents as well. Cos how do you explain to a layman that there's geometry in music? And that's just a tip of the iceberg compared to how geometry plays a huge role in our every day lives, our day to day activities...

Dimensionality reduction and Pattern recognition. This was an important part of my undergraduate project. Key stuff in Machine Learning and Big Data Analytics.

Isn’t this dumb. It doesn’t listen to my music but it records a jam of air pressure lol 😂 that’s another word for listening

This makes more sense which is why sometimes it picks a song that is not the song but may contain the same geometry

I wish my professor used this real world example to attempt to get me excited about fast Fourier transforms…😫 FFTs were the absolute worst

cool overview, but the real magic is robust audio fingerprinting against noise

I heard "Chaotic jumble of air pressure " What is sound? Sound is energy produced by vibrations that travel through a medium, such as air. These waves are detected by our ears when they cause the eardrum to vibrate, allowing us to hear. Now, what does music make? Mehn 😑

Very interesting, thx 👏 Stage 1 → raw waveform Stage 2 → Fourier Transform formula Stage 3 → Short-Time Fourier Transform formula Stage 4 → Shazam Fingerprint formula Stage 5 → Database matching Stage 6 → Song identified #AudioVisualization #shazam

Shazam is honestly one of those apps you don’t think about… until you need it and then it feels like magic. You hear a random song for 5 seconds and it just knows. Works across apps, even through headphones, auto-detects in the background… it’s kind of insane. And now with lyrics, playlists, and concert info, it’s not just a tool anymore it actually feels like part of how people discover music.

this is false, they mostly match lyrics first nowadays

When people say stupid things like "what did we learn all that math for. It doesn't apply in real life". Show them this video

"It is not matrching audio at all". Well.... The Fourier Transformation of an Audio Signal transforms the AUDIO into its specific wavelengths / frequencies, so after that Shazam matches audio AT ALL.

Shazam is still one of the craziest apps: • Instantly finds any song • Works inside apps + headphones • Auto-detect mode • Lyrics + playlists + concerts

🙃😅😂🤣🙃 When you tap the app, it records a few seconds of audio, converts it into a spectrogram, and identifies the loudest frequencies over time to create a "constellation map" of the music. I appreciate the math processing explanation.
