That is how an employee gets fired and a company gets sued. Retail workers are repeatedly told they cannot stop, block or make physical contact with shoplifters. They are to observe and report, not stop the crime.

Americans have such a weird culture in response to shoplifting. In Denmark the shop's employees grab the thief and make a citizens arrest. The thief is kept until police arrives. Charges are always pressed, so that thieves don't go unpunished. Letting her go is weak and not just
