This is how unbiblical spiritually abusive leadership structures manipulate people.

My heart is broken for the Coopers. I was fired from a church I’d been at for almost a decade, and the people closest to me made up stories and spread lies to justify it to the congregation. That’s not even close to what the betrayal the Coopers have gone through, and it took me a decade to overcome it. Please let them know. I’m praying for them.

I’m praying for all of them. I just figured John has been busy touring and I missed his podcast but figured it had run its course but hearing about the last 2.5 years I weep for their pain at the loss of Church and family.

This is such an important episode, though terribly difficult for the Coopers (I can’t imagine). I appreciate their honesty, esp. re: their feelings toward God after leaving. I’m prompted to pray even more for the body of Christ! Praying for y’all and welcome to Nashville. 💛

I've seen this cycle before!

It's gonna be a hard road for them especially because they are celebrities. I've walked it myself like thousands of others. Some make it back (with their faith intact). Some don't unfortunately

I feel so terribly for the Coopers. Im keeping them in my nightly prayers. Yes, abusive spiritual leaders drive people away from God, even people who are stalwart Defenders of the faith.

I go to a church, but my walk is with the Lord. I answer to God. I belong to a small group but rarely go into the sanctuary to listen to loud music and a talk. I’m introverted so prefer a small group gathering. We make church way too complicated. Life is short and we all have our gifts and talents. No overlord in a church setting is going to manipulate that. Even if I walk alone.

There's are no modern day apostles. One of the requirements is to have seen the Resurrected Christ. Paul was the last person to do so.

These are recent events?

So many of us are in the same boat. Here I am in New Zealand. About a year ago my wife and I left our church after 40 years. I can relate to so many things they are saying. We are now returning to a simple life with Christ. No regrets, just finding peace again. God is still good.
