I was always bad at creating cool mesh liquid gradients. When I had this style in mind for a client’s brand identity, I knew I needed a solution for their team. They had to create these visuals without friction. I knew how tricky those assets are. So I built a tool around it. Presets, color pickers, blur and grain controls, plus a liquify filter. This is how you deliver a brand toolkit in 2026. Do not blame AI for taking your job, blame yourself for not using it.

While contrast-color() only returns black or white, there are workarounds! If you register a new custom property, you can use style queries for full color palette customization (but make sure to test the contrast yourself!) Another technique is using the contrast-color() value inside of color-mix() to provide a tint variant. This demo shows method 1 where you can get warmer light colors and blue-tinted darks instead of pure black and white. Cons: Firefox doesn't support style queries yet so browser support is limited for now (though it is an Interop 2026 feature!).

Saving/Loading preset colors has been implemented into the Sparking Zero Color Customizer! I also plan on letting you save basic colors instead of the entire material, but this is a nice QoL feature and I'm glad it works as well as it does.

I created my own custom water material and underwater post process material in UEFN! It uses distance fields to create foam and ripples around objects on the surface and I can also add algae/pondscum to the surface. I plan on adding more features to this material soon! For underwater, I project a caustics material along surface normals in the underwater post process material as well as using scene depth to make things up close appear clear and things farther away appear not as clear. #UEFN #Fortnite
