Here are The Facts 🤙🏽 Thanks for the tag @djkcutz Follow to tag when a post is needing context 🤙🏽 Man Fatally Shot After Crashing Truck into Killeen Mall December 21, 2024 Killeen, Texas Facts: On December 21, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m., John Darrel Schultz, 53, of Kempner, Texas, led police on a 19-mile chase after Temple PD reported a reckless driver on I-35. Dashcam footage from DPS Trooper Brody Telfer showed the pursuit, which began in Belton and moved to I-14 toward Killeen. Schultz exited the highway, drove through the crowded Killeen Mall parking lot, and crashed his black pickup truck through the JCPenney store’s glass doors. The truck traveled several hundred yards inside, striking five people, including a 6-year-old, during the busy Christmas shopping season. Bodycam footage captured Telfer rushing into the store, firing at the truck as Schultz attempted to drive further. Telfer, joined by a Killeen PD officer, a KISD officer, and two off-duty officers, fatally shot Schultz after he crashed into an office space. Five victims, aged 6 to 75, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, including four from the Moreno family. The truck contained pill bottles and vodka, suggesting possible intoxication, though not confirmed. The Texas Rangers investigated, deeming the shooting justified. Telfer and KISD officer Cary Spate received the 2025 Warrior Award from the Texas Municipal Police Association for their bravery. The viral footage, released August 27, 2025, showed the chaos and destruction, with witnesses like Catherine Dedden describing shoppers fleeing and a child carried out bleeding. Killeen Mayor Debbie Nash-King called the incident “profoundly troubling,” and the mall reopened the next day.

A drunk. John Darrel Schultz injured five people when he drove his pickup truck through the entrance of the Killeen Mall on December 21, 2024. The injuries ranged in severity, with four individuals being taken to area hospitals and one person going to the hospital on their own. The ages of the injured ranged from 6 to 75 years old. The officers fired into the truck to stop him, resulting in his death.

They actually finally shot the driver. Amazing display of whatever that was. Remedial range time is in order. 🙄

And FYI- he did not survive. But all those injured? Thankfully did. It could have been SO much worse.

might be a dumb question but why did they use lethal force on a fleeing subject? is it because the truck is being considered a lethal weapon ?

And the craziest part is that with so many shots fired, police still did not hit the driver. Do you guys take any shooting classes ? I thought for a moment that maybe they did, and the driver just got dead frozen with his foot on the gas pedal. But no, the break light kept coming on, with the wheels still smoking. So, the driver was not shut. They could have shut his tires too, to begin with. That would have helped. Those cops need to get some training, in a hurry.

Shots fired? I’ll say. I think the truck was still revving because he had a lead foot. And a lead torso. And a lead …

Finally — someone went to the mall. It’s been years since.

As a liberal, he should be dealt with firmly. At least a $1000 fine and 30 days in jail followed by lots and lots of community service. We don't tolerate such behavior in our sanctuary city.

These kinds of things never happened when I was growing up. What kind of mental or emotional disease has taken hold in this country? It seems like it’s become prevalent in the past few years.

Deflating the tires (“shooting them out”) does not prevent the vehicle from being used as a deadly weapon. And who’s to say he doesn’t get out and start shooting? The deadly element of this situation was the driver, and he was dealt with appropriately.
