Mike Schmidt did nothing wrong. All he wanted to do was to move on from the past and look forward, but everything goes to shit. While he did say something kinda crazy to Vanessa, she ultimately kinda screwed everybody due to the older location.

I just saw it and the criticism of the ending is WAY overdone. Its a bit cheesy, happy "ending" to the ghost kids, sure. But FNAF isn't known for impeccable storytelling. My theater was cheering at the ending and the kids were hyped AF. It's fast food movie that knows it's niche
