When we found Ginger, she was hiding behind trash cans after presumably being hit by a car. Her pelvis was broken in three places and she was in a lot of pain. She received the surgery and care she needed, and after several months of recovering during crate rest - she's healed.

X-rays have revealed a broken pelvis, and tragically one of her legs is completely shattered and will need to be amputated. Despite everything she’s been through, she is the sweetest little soul and has already stolen hearts at the hospital. We’ve taken her under MLHR so she can get the care she desperately needs. Esme has a long road ahead of her, with major surgery and recovery to come, and unfortunately a very large veterinary bill. If you can help in any way, please consider donating or sharing this post. “I found her lying alone on the cold roadside… unable to move, softly moaning in pain. 💔 At first, she tried to be brave. She dragged herself forward using only her front legs, while her injured back legs trailed helplessly behind. Every movement looked painful, yet she kept fighting to survive. Cars kept passing by as if she didn’t exist. People looked… but no one stopped. Then I saw her eyes. They were full of pain, fear, and a silent plea for help. I gently called her over, and despite everything she had been through, she trusted me. Slowly, she dragged herself toward me, exhausted and trembling. That moment broke my heart. I couldn’t leave her there. I carefully lifted her into my car and rushed her to the hospital. She was scared, confused, and weak, yet remained calm—as if she knew this was her chance to live. The vets confirmed her back legs were badly injured, and her recovery would require time, treatment, and patience. But through all the pain, she never stopped fighting. This is Stephanie Melgoza, she was a nursing student in Illinois. She was driving drunk and in 2022 she killed two innocent people.. This is police body cam footage of her showing absolutely no remorse, and in fact she’s singing, and laughing. She asks when she can go back to school, and when she can get her car back, the officer tells her again the “car is totaled. It’s a crime scene. She will not be getting it back and she killed two people”. Her reaction is absolutely mind-boggling to the officer & me. I have to think that she’s just possessed. She went to trial in 2023 and was only given 14 years. That is not nearly enough time. She should be in jail forever.!

Had an interesting conversation this weekend with an older relative who's politics are "just be a good person". She's relatively wealthy and gives to the types of causes you would expect this type of person to give. She gives her time too. She is actually a good person. I asked her if she was ever concerned that the causes she gave to would reduce the proportion of people like her in the world. She said that she thought the opposite. That she was inspired by the generosity and kindness of others, and that by giving she would increase the proportion of people like her. I said I believed she inspires her peers, but her peers aren't the people she's giving money to. Do they become productive and generous people, like her? Or is she just increasing the proportion of people who are takers and don't give anything back? Despite decades of generosity, this was clearly a question she had never thought about. The implications made her uncomfortable, and the conversation basically ended after that.
