I don't seem to understand the fuss behind preparing pap,it's very easy. You don't make pap pouring water directly from a pot, you can't control the water flow. Use kettle, make sure the water is very hot. Distribute the water evenly on the pap and watch out for colour change

What I usually do is make the mixture a bit thick before pouring the water. It always come out good . Same applies to custard.
