I'm usually full weeb/sub supremacist when it comes to my japanese media of choice, but I will say I think Ryan Drummond and David Humphrey are the closest we've ever gotten to matching the feeling of the JP VA's in English. Probably some heavy nostalgia bias on my side though.

You're not alone on this by the way. There's something about the original voice acting of Japanese franchises that just feel so much more right and natural to me than their dubbed counterparts. (Not to say all dubs are automatically bad lmao)

The translation is also just objectively better here

Tbh I like playing the sonic games with the Japanese voice actors, they do a really good job, especially Junichi as Sonic

Sonic calling Shadow stubborn as well in the Japanese dialogue for Heroes is the coolest thing ever especially for how subtle it is

To me, there will always be two Voice Actors that have embodied Sonic in their truest forms. And they are Jason Griffith, and Junichi Kanemaru. And this damn scene is one of the greatest showcases as to why.

Ever since I downloaded fansubs of sonic x as a kid I played in Japanese and never went back

The English dub legit just obliterates the tone of the game. Legit can't play this game without the Retranslated mod and the JP voices.

To this day. this still gives me goosebumps.
