...very essence of VAT. The businessman in Kampala adds VAT to the next purchaser but claims VAT refund the manufacturer or importer paid. One of Masaka will pay VAT only on added value but will claim VAT paid in Kampala. Whoever collects VAT must pay to URA for there's refund.

VAT in Hospitality! And why we need it changed. We buy our food in zero vat rated and as soon as we sell it within our restaurant VAT is added. So in simple terms when we buy a steak in at £20 (for example) and sell that steak at £20 we only reveive £16 as £4 goes to VAT.

"A reduction in VAT is the biggest thing that would save hospitality." Thanks to Tom Kerridge for highlighting on BBC Question Time how the UK's VAT rate is an outlier compared to our competitors. That's why we have been calling for a lower rate of VAT for hospitality.

Andy Burnham is only cutting VAT on electricity bills. Reform UK pledged 4 months ago that we would also cut VAT on the 86% of homes that rely on gas and oil.

If VAT goes up 1 May - it will be because a GNU Minister presented a budget announcing a VAT Increase for 1 May 2025. ActionSA is pursuing the only option to prevent that increase while others are playing political games. Those are the irrefutable facts.
